Allan Dick (politician)
Allan David Dick (1 September 1915 – 15 March 1992) was a New Zealand politician of the National Party. Biography Dick was born in 1915 at Dunedin. He received his education at Otago Boys' High School. After school, he farmed at North Otago, Kurow and then Lilybank Station at the head of Lake Tekapo in the McKenzie Country. He bought Lilybank in 1937. In 1962, he won the 1962 Waitaki by-election, after the sudden death of the Hon. Thomas Hayman, who had been an MP from . He was one of six candidates for the National nomination in this largely rural and safe National seat. He represented the Waitaki electorate to 1969, and then the electorate from to 1972, when he was defeated. He was one of four National Party incumbents from Otago and Southland who lost their normally blue electorate to the Labour challenger over the proposed raising of the lake levels of lakes Manapouri and Te Anau, which was opposed by the Save Manapouri campaign. Lilybank Station And The Godley River, 1977
Lilybank is a neighbourhood in the east of Glasgow, Scotland. Neighbouring areas Newbank to the west, Braidfauld to the east and the eastern part of Parkhead to the north. The A74 London Road runs to the south, with the land on the opposite side between the road and the River Clyde not used for residential purposes: the ''Barrowfield'' football training ground owned by Celtic F.C., and the Dewar's whisky bottling plant and warehouses, the latter on the former Westthorn country estate. Lake Tekapo (town)
Lake Tekapo (often known simply as Tekapo to avoid confusion with the lake itself) is a small township located at the southern end of the lake of the same name in the inland South Island of New Zealand. It had 558 residents according to the 2018 census, being one of five settlements in the sparsely populated Mackenzie Basin. State Highway 8 runs directly through the township – from Christchurch and from Queenstown. Daily shuttle services link Lake Tekapo to Christchurch and Queenstown. The lake is a popular tourist destination, and several resort hotels are located at the township. Lake Tekapo Airport is located west of the town where local tourism operator Air Safaris is based. Bill Laney
William Ross Laney (4 May 1913 – 7 August 1998) was a New Zealand Member of Parliament representing the New Zealand Labour Party, Labour Party, and Mayor of Oamaru. Biography Early life and career Laney was born in 1913 in Weston, New Zealand, Weston. He graduated from the University of Otago with a Bachelor of Arts, BA in 1937. He was also a New Zealand Universities rugby and cricket blue and later Otago Rugby Football Union, Otago rugby captain. Laney then became a teacher of agriculture at Waitaki Boys' High School. Political career Laney's political career began in 1951 when he was elected as a member of the Oamaru Borough Council in a by-election. He was then Mayor of Oamaru for 18 years from 1956 to 1974. Oamaru was a parliamentary electorate in the Otago region of New Zealand, during three periods between 1866 and 1978. Population centres The previous electoral redistribution was undertaken in 1875 for the 1875–1876 election. In the six years since, New Zealand's European population had increased by 65%. In the 1881 electoral redistribution, the House of Representatives increased the number of European representatives to 91 (up from 84 since the 1875–76 election). The number of Māori electorates was held at four. The House further decided that electorates should not have more than one representative, which led to 35 new electorates being formed, and two electorates that had previously been abolished to be recreated, including Oamaru.
