The Belle Game
The Belle Game, aka Belle Game, was an indie pop band originating from Vancouver, British Columbia and active from 2009 to 2020. Its members were Adam Nanji (guitar), Andrea Lo (lead vocals), and Katrina Jones (keyboards, vocals). Drummer Rob Chursinoff left in 2014; drummer and guitarist Alex Andrew left in 2018. For a short time, bassist Ian Cook and trumpeter Andrew Lee were also part of the band. The name is a play on the literal translation, from German, of Glockenspiel. History In the summer of 2009, Andrea Lo, Alex Andrew and Adam Nanji got together to play a single performance at Vancouver's Railway Club. Lo and Nanji had grown up together and played as a duo before; Nanji and Andrew were at McGill University together. Bahamas (musician)
Afie Jurvanen (born April 28, 1981), known by his stage name Bahamas, is a Canadian musician. Early life Jurvanen was born in Toronto and raised in Barrie, Ontario. He is of Finnish ancestry. Career Jurvanen taught himself guitar. He worked with a variety of musicians that includes The Lumineers, City and Colour, Feist, Howie Beck, Jason Collett, Jack Johnson, The Weather Station, and Zeus. Downtown Music Publishing represents Bahamas' songs. Jurvanen recorded his debut album, ''Pink Strat'', in a cabin in rural Ontario in 2008. He released the album under the name Bahamas in 2009 and was subsequently nominated for a 2010 Juno Award for Roots & Traditional Album of the Year – Solo. CHLG-FM (104.3 MHz, ''104.3 The Breeze'') is a commercial FM radio station in Vancouver, British Columbia. Owned by Stingray Group, the station broadcasts a soft adult contemporary format. Its studios are located in Richmond, and its transmitter is on Mount Seymour. History The station was licensed as CHHR-FM by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) on May 30, 2008. The station started test transmissions at 104.1 MHz on June 1, 2009, and officially began broadcasting on July 1, 2009, under the ownership of Shore Media Group. ''Pitchfork'' (formerly ''Pitchfork Media'') is an American online music publication (currently owned by Condé Nast) that was launched in 1995 by writer Ryan Schreiber as an independent music blog. Schreiber started Pitchfork while working at a record store in suburban Minneapolis, and the website earned a reputation for its extensive coverage of indie rock music. It has since expanded and covers all kinds of music, including pop. Pitchfork was sold to Condé Nast in 2015, although Schreiber remained its editor-in-chief until he left the website in 2019. CKPK-FM (102.7 FM, ''102.7 Now! Radio'') is a radio station in Vancouver, British Columbia. Owned by Pattison Media, it broadcasts an adult contemporary format. Its studios are located on West 8th Avenue in the Fairview neighbourhood of Vancouver, while its transmitter is located atop Mount Seymour. The station first signed on with an experimental license in 1923 as CFXC, and was renamed CJOR in 1926. It moved to its long-time home of 600 AM in 1930. CJOR operated as the Vancouver affiliate of the CBC's Dominion Network from 1944 through the network's closure in 1962. It was later acquired by Jim Pattison after the death of its previous owner George Clarke Chandler. In November 2008, after over 80 years as an AM station, the station—by then adult standards CKBD—moved to FM as adult album alternative (AAA) ''100.5 The Peak''. ''Ritual Tradition Habit'' is the debut studio album by Canadian band The Belle Game, produced by John Raham (Frazey Ford, The Be Good Tanyas) and the members of The Belle Game. It was released in Canada on April 16, 2013, and in the United States on May 21, 2013. Track listing Reception ''Ritual Tradition Habit'' earned The Belle Game positive reviews from many blogs upon its release in April 2013. The first single from the album was “Wait Up For You,” and it was put into rotation on the Vancouver station the Peak 100.5 FM as well as other radio stations across the country, particularly college stations and CBC Radio 3. Rifflandia Music Festival
Rifflandia Music Festival is a four-day multi-venue music festival held at the Royal Athletic Park in Victoria, British Columbia. With no fixed date, the festival has occurred in the month-long span between the last weekend of August and the last weekend of September. Rifflandia was first launched on August 29, 2008. In 2019 it was canceled due to "economic instability in the festival market," with the hope of returning in 2020 which did not happen either due to coronavirus. Rifflandia also includes Artlandia, the War Child Lounge, and publishes an annual magazine. Local brewery and sponsor Phillips Brewery also produces a Rifflandia beer, Rifflandabrau, sold around the festival's time.
