CHLG-FM (104.3 MHz, ''104.3 The Breeze'') is a commercial FM radio station in Vancouver, British Columbia. Owned by Stingray Group, the station broadcasts a soft adult contemporary format. Its studios are located in Richmond, and its transmitter is on Mount Seymour. History The station was licensed as CHHR-FM by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) on May 30, 2008. The station started test transmissions at 104.1 MHz on June 1, 2009, and officially began broadcasting on July 1, 2009, under the ownership of Shore Media Group. It aired an adult album alternative format, branded as ''Shore 104''. It was the second AAA station in Metro Vancouver, the other being CKPK-FM, owned by The Jim Pattison Group. Astral Media Inc. was a Canadian media conglomerate. It was Canada's largest radio broadcaster, with 84 radio stations in eight provinces. Astral was also a major player in premium and specialty television in Canada, with 23 specialty channels and two conventional stations. In addition, Astral had a presence in out-of-home advertising. In March 2012, Bell Media announced its intent to acquire Astral for $3.38 billion. Although an attempt to purchase the entirety of the company was blocked under competition law, the CRTC approved a revised offer on June 27, 2013, which saw various Astral specialty channels and radio stations divested to competitors. KAFE (104.1 FM, "KAFE 104.1", pronounced "Café") is a commercial FM radio station in Bellingham, Washington. It is run by the Cascade Radio Group with the broadcast license held by Saga Broadcasting, LLC. It airs an adult contemporary radio format, switching to Christmas music for much of November and December. The radio studios and offices are on Yew Street Road in Bellingham. KAFE has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 60,000 watts. CKZZ-FM (''Z95.3'') is a Canadian radio station in Vancouver, British Columbia. It broadcasts at 95.3 FM with an effective radiated power of 71,300 watts from a transmitter on Mount Seymour, and its studios are located in Richmond. The station has had a hot adult contemporary format since 2004, and is owned by Stingray Group. History On February 19, 1990, the CRTC initiated a call for applications for a new commercial FM radio station in Vancouver on the frequency 94.5 MHz. Six companies submitted proposals to the commission for approval. On June 20, 1990, the CRTC approved South Fraser Broadcasting's application for the frequency. CKPK-FM (102.7 FM, ''102.7 Now! Radio'') is a radio station in Vancouver, British Columbia. Owned by Pattison Media, it broadcasts an adult contemporary format. Its studios are located on West 8th Avenue in the Fairview neighbourhood of Vancouver, while its transmitter is located atop Mount Seymour. The station first signed on with an experimental license in 1923 as CFXC, and was renamed CJOR in 1926. It moved to its long-time home of 600 AM in 1930. CJOR operated as the Vancouver affiliate of the CBC's Dominion Network from 1944 through the network's closure in 1962. It was later acquired by Jim Pattison after the death of its previous owner George Clarke Chandler. Mount Seymour
Mount Seymour is a mountain located in Mount Seymour Provincial Park in the District of North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It is a part of the North Shore Mountains, rising to the north from the shores of Burrard Inlet and Indian Arm to a summit of above the Indian River and Deep Cove neighbourhoods. Mount Seymour is most commonly identified for its ski area of the same name, and as a popular hiking area. It is named in honour of Frederick Seymour, second governor of the Colony of British Columbia.
