Mária Török
Maria Torok ( ; 10 November 1925, Budapest – 25 March 1998, New York City) was a Hungarian-born French psychoanalyst. Torok is best known for her idiosyncratic contributions to psychoanalytic theory, developed in the wake of first Freud, then Ferenczi, and also the critical study of Husserl, and often coauthored with Nicolas Abraham. With Abraham, Maria Torok has made significant advances in the study of the problem of pathological mourning and transgenerational influences. Life and career Maria Torok fled from Hungary in 1947 and came to live in Paris. She then trained as a psychologist at the Sorbonne in the 1950s, before meeting Nicolas Abraham and deciding to go into analysis. 'Torok went on to become an analyst and a member of the Paris psychoanalytical society'. Beverly Torok-Storb
Beverly Jo Torok-Storb (1948 – May 5, 2023) was an American physician who was Professor of Clinical Research at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Her work considered the stem cells that generate blood and the microenvironment of bone marrow. Early life and education Torok-Storb was born in 1948, in Erie, Pennsylvania, where she was raised in a public housing project. She became interested in biology during high school, then was an undergraduate student at PennWest Edinboro. Torok-Storb worked toward her doctorate at the University of Pittsburgh. Research and career Torok-Storb joined the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in 1978 and studied stem cells and the microenvironment of bone marrow. Her research identified the interactions between the stem cells in blood and the supportive cells in bone marrow, enabling critical transplants in leukemia and blood cancer. Torok Formation
The Torok Formation is a geologic formation in the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska (NPR-A). It preserves fossils dating back to the Cretaceous period. Geology The Torok Formation lies 2,000–4,000 feet deeper than the Nanushuk Formation. They form a huge wedge of sediment deposited in a deep water basin and stretch from north of the Brooks Range beneath the Alaska North Slope to the adjacent offshore. It contains reservoirs in turbidite sandstone and is very porous. The USGS found large-scale folds and faults in the South of the formation and evidence, that the rocks have been heated to temperatures at which oil is converted to natural gas. Sándor Török (25 February 1904 – 30 April 1985) was a Hungarian journalist, writer and Anthroposophy, anthroposophist. He became known primarily for his children's books and youth novels. Early life Török was born into an ethnic Hungarian family of Jewish descent in Transylvania, Austria-Hungary. His family were Reformed Church in Hungary, Reformed Christians who were converted from Judaism prior to Török's birth. His father was Lajos Török, a notary.
