Betty Twarog
Betty Mack Twarog (August 28, 1927 – February 6, 2013) was an American biochemist who was the first to find serotonin in mammalian brain. Life and career Betty M Twarog was born on August 28, 1927, in New York City. She attended Swarthmore College from 1944 to 1948, focusing on mathematics. While studying for an M.Sc. at Tufts College she heard a lecture on mollusc muscle neurology and in 1949 enrolled under John Henry Welsh, John Welsh in the PhD program at Harvard to study this area. By 1952 she had submitted a paper showing that serotonin had a role as a neurotransmitter in mussels. In autumn 1952 Twarog moved for family reasons to the Kent State University area, and chose the Cleveland Clinic as a place to continue her study of her hypothesis that invertebrate neurotransmitters would also be found in mammals. Quark (dairy Product)
Quark or quarg is a type of fresh dairy product made from milk. The milk is souring, soured, usually by adding lactic acid bacteria cultures, and strained once the desired curdling is achieved. It can be classified as Fresh cheese, fresh Sour milk cheese, acid-set cheese. Traditional quark can be made without rennet, but in modern dairies small quantities of rennet are typically added. It is soft, white and unaged, and usually has no salt added. Quark and its dryer variant Tvorog is traditional in the cuisines of Baltic states, Baltic, Germanic peoples, Germanic and Slavic languages, Slavic-speaking countries as well as amongst Ashkenazi Jews and various Turkic peoples. Michał Twaróg Of Bystrzyków
Michał Twaróg of Bystrzyków (; ) (c. 1450–1520) was a Polish philosopher and theologian of the early 16th century. Life Michał Twaróg studied at Paris in 1473–77, during the period when, following the anathematization of the Nominalists (1473), the Scotist school of philosophy enjoyed its greatest triumphs there. He brought Scotism to Poland and taught at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków from 1485, serving as its rector in 1513–14. Twaróg was the author of many works of philosophy and theology revered by contemporary historians. As the abbot of the collegiate church in Wojnicz (1497–1520) he supported financially the functioning of the local hospital. Tvorog ( ) is a curd, soft white fermented milk product, traditionally made in regions of Eastern, Central and (less often) Northern Europe; like curd, tvorog is obtained by fermenting milk with subsequent whey removal. It's customary to classify traditionally prepared tvorog according to its fat content. According to GOST standards tvorog is classified based on physical and chemical indicators into several categories: fat-free, low-fat, classic, and fatty. Depending on a method of production types of tvorog are distinguished as simple, soft, and grained tvorog, which is a type of low-fat tvorog. Tvorog that is made out of milk with fat substitute is referred to as a "curd product" and not just tvorog.
