Translohr
Translohr is a rubber-tired tramway (or guided bus) system, originally developed by Lohr Industrie of France and now run by a consortium of Alstom Transport and Fonds stratégique d'investissement (FSI) as '' newTL,'' which took over from Lohr in 2012. It is used in Paris and Clermont-Ferrand, France; Medellín, Colombia; Tianjin and Shanghai, China; and Venice-Mestre and Padua in Italy. In June 2012, Alstom Group and the Strategic Investment Fund acquired Translohr for €35 million. Description The Translohr system is intended to provide a tram or light rail-like experience compared to regular buses or trolleybuses. Clermont-Ferrand Tramway
The Clermont-Ferrand tramway (french: Tramway de Clermont-Ferrand) is a transit system located in the city of Clermont-Ferrand in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. It is a Translohr system, meaning it is guided by a single rail and powered by electricity from overhead wires. This tramway comprises just one tramline, called Line A, that serves 34 stations and runs on of double track length. However, there have been numerous plans for extension of the line, and for the system to expand to include other lines, B and C. Clermont-Ferrand constructed its first tram system in 1890, but in 1956 the tramway was decommissioned in favor of new bus routes. The current Translohr system officially opened in 2006. Rubber-tyred Tram
A rubber-tyred tram (also known as tramway on tyres, french: tramway sur pneumatiques) is a development of the guided bus in which a vehicle is guided by a fixed rail in the road surface and draws current from overhead electric wires (either via pantograph or trolley poles). Two incompatible systems using physical guide rails exist, the Guided Light Transit (GLT) designed by Bombardier Transportation, and the Translohr from Lohr Industrie (currently made by Alstom and FSI). There are no guide bars at the sides but there is a central guidance rail that differs in design between the systems. In the case of Translohr, this rail is grasped by a pair of metal guide wheels set at 45° to the road and at 90° to each other. Ayacucho Tram
The Ayacucho Tram (or Medellín Tram) is a Translohr tram system that serves the Metropolitan Area of the Aburrá Valley in Medellín, Antioquia, Colombia. It started trial operations on 20 October 2015. The tramline consists of 9 stations with three of those allowing interchanges with the Medellín Metro and the Metrocable systems. The Ayacucho Tram is operated by Medellín Metro and is the only (rubber-tyred or otherwise) tram in Colombia. Medellín once had a standard steel-wheeled tramway network. It first was opened as a horse tramway and was later converted to electric trams. Routes were built in stages, and the network reached its maximum size in 1945, served by a fleet of 61 tramcars. Trams In Padua
The Padua Tramway ( it, Tranvia di Padova) serves Padova, a city in Veneto (Northern Italy). In operation since 2007, it is long, and comprises one line, linking the north with the south calling at the main station and then passing the historic city centre. The system built in the 21st century uses the French Translohr system (tramway sur pneumatiques, i.e. cars run on rubber tyres, a single central rail serving for guidance and return current). Zhangjiang Tram
Zhangjiang Tram is one of the only two tram networks operating in Shanghai today, the other being Songjiang Tram. It utilises a system manufactured by the French Translohr company. Shanghai originally had a steel wheeled electric tramway network in its urban center. Routes expanded gradually and reached largest extent in 1925 with 328 tramcars; this tram system shut down in 1975. Tram service returned to Shanghai with the opening of a rubber tired Translohr line in the suburban Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park in 2010. It is the second rubber-tired tram system in both China and Asia, the first being TEDA tram in Tianjin. Zhangjiang Tram started construction on December 23, 2007. TEDA Modern Guided Rail Tram
TEDA Modern Guided Rail Tram () is a Translohr Light Rail line in Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA). It is a modern, high speed rubber-tyred tram line, both first in China & Asia. The line is considered as part of the Tianjin Metro system. It is run by Tianjin Binhai Mass Transit Development Co., Ltd, which becomes a subsidiary of Tianjin Rail Transit Group Corporation since 2017. Tianjin once had a conventional steel-wheeled tramway network. The system gradually expanded and reached its peak in 1933 with 116 tramcars. The Île-de-France tramways (french: Tramways d'Île-de-France) consists of a network of modern tram lines in the Île-de-France region of France. Eleven lines are currently operational (counting Lines 3a and 3b as separate lines), with extensions and additional lines in the planning and construction stage. Although the system mainly runs in the suburban regions of Paris, lines T3a and T3b run entirely within Paris city limits, and line T2 also does so for part of its route. Bombardier Guided Light Transit
Guided Light Transit (GLT, french: Transport sur Voie Réservée or TVR) was the name of guided bus technology and associated infrastructure designed and manufactured by Bombardier Transportation (now Alstom). It was installed in two French cities: Nancy and Caen. As of 2022, only the Nancy system is in operation, however it will be withdrawn in February 2023 and replaced by trolleybuses. The Caen system has been abandoned and now rebuilt as a conventional tramway by 2019. Both of the systems in these cities are referred to as " tramways on tyres", and in common with tram systems they use a surface guidance system and in normal operation are powered by electricity drawn from an overhead wire. Guided Bus
Guided buses are buses capable of being steered by external means, usually on a dedicated track or roll way that excludes other traffic, permitting the maintenance of schedules even during rush hours. Unlike trolleybuses or rubber-tired trams, for part of their routes guided buses are able to share road space with general traffic along conventional roads, or with conventional buses on standard bus lanes. The Venice Tramway ( it, Tranvia di Venezia) is a rubber-tired tramway (or guided bus) system forming part of the public transport system in Venice, Favaro Veneto, Mestre and Marghera, three boroughs of the city and ''comune'' of Venice, northeast Italy. Since 2015, the tramway is connected to Piazzale Roma (the main bus station) in Venice. The tramway uses Translohr rubber-tyred trams. History Trams returned to Mestre on 20 December 2010.
