Trans World Communications
Trans World Communications (or TWC for short) was the investment vehicle of businessman Owen Oyston. It operated radio stations and played a part in the Miss World Beauty Pageant. About Initially called The Red Rose Group because of its beginnings at Red Rose Radio in Preston, Trans World went on to purchase Radio Aire in Leeds, Red Dragon Radio in Cardiff and Piccadilly Radio in Manchester to form the UK's first radio group. Perhaps TWC's biggest star was James Whale whose radio programme was 'networked' from Radio Aire in Yorkshire to Red Rose Radio in Lancashire in 1987 and even simulcast on ITV from Yorkshire Television's studios from 1989. Owen Oyston
Owen John Oyston (born 3 January 1934) is an English businessman best known as the former majority owner of Blackpool F.C., Blackpool Football Club. Oyston was convicted of rape and indecent assault of a 16-year-old girl in 1996. He served three years and six months of a six-year sentence in prison. He was released after a judicial review of the parole board's refusal to grant parole. On 25 February 2019, Oyston and his daughter, Natalie Christopher, were removed from the board of Blackpool Football Club. Early life Oyston was born in County Durham, but his family moved to Blackpool when he was two. He was educated at St Mary's Catholic Academy, St Joseph's College in the town. James Whale (radio)
Michael James Whale (born 13 May 1951) is a British radio personality, television presenter, podcast host and author. He gained initial prominence in the 1980s as the host of ''The James Whale Radio Show'' on Radio Aire in Leeds, which was simulcast on national television. From 1995 to 2008, Whale hosted a night time radio show on talkSPORT (Talk Radio 1995–2000), followed by stints on LBC 97.3 and various BBC radio stations. Whale is the current host of his podcast ''The James Whale Show'' and a night time weekly radio show on talkRADIO. He is known as a presenter who is controversial and outspoken. In 2008, he was suspended by talkSPORT for urging listeners to vote for Boris Johnson in the upcoming London mayoral election.
