Tiburones De Cancún
The Tiburones de Cancún (English: ''Cancún Sharks'') were an American football team based in Cancún, Quintana Roo, Mexico. The Tiburones competed in Fútbol Americano de México (FAM) for a single season in 2022, finishing with a league-worst 1–7 record, before the league folded in September 2022. The team played its home games at three different stadiums: the Estadio Andrés Quintana Roo, the Estadio Coliseo Maya and the Estadio Cancún 86. History Beginnings In early 2020, it was announced that the team was approved as an expansion team in Fútbol Americano de México (FAM) for its 2021 season, with Andrés Baños as its CEO. The project was undertaken by a consortium of local businessmen, along with municipal and state authorities, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the seaside resort of Cancún. Cancún is the most populous city in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, located in southeast Mexico on the northeast coast of the Yucatán Peninsula. Marshawn "Mardy" Gilyard (born December 2, 1986) is an American former professional football wide receiver. He was selected by the St. Louis Rams in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL draft. He played college football at the University of Cincinnati. Early life Gilyard attended Flagler Palm Coast High School in Palm Coast, Florida, where he was a first-team Class 5A all-state selection. He capped his career with over 2,500 yards and 30 touchdowns and was named MVP of the Florida Coast All-Star Game. Caudillos de Chihuahua are an American football team based in Chihuahua City, Mexico. The Caudillos compete in the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional (LFA), the top American football league in Mexico. The team plays its home games at the Estadio Olímpico Universitario José Reyes Baeza. History The team was announced on 1 August 2019 by Jorge Ginther, team owner and president, as an expansion franchise of Fútbol Americano de México for the 2020 season. In the press conference Ginther also announce that the head coach would be Mauricio Balderrama and the team had no name yet, and it would be chosen by the fans by a Facebook poll. Jeremy Johnson (born September 23, 1994) is an American former professional football quarterback. After playing college football at Auburn, he played for several professional teams before leading the Caudillos de Chihuahua to back-to-back Tazón México titles in 2023 and 2024. Early life Johnson attended George Washington Carver High School in Montgomery, Alabama. As a senior in 2012, he won the Mr. Football Award for best high school football player in Alabama after throwing for 3,193 yards and 31 touchdowns.
