Thornbury () is an inner-city suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, north-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Darebin local government area. Thornbury recorded a population of 19,005 at the . Thornbury is bordered by the Merri Creek to the west, and the Darebin Creek to the east. The heart of Thornbury is known as Thornbury Village, and is located at the centre of Thornbury, at the intersection of High Street and Normanby Avenue/Clarendon Street. Thornbury is shaped as a thin strip of land sandwiched between Northcote and Preston. Its east–west distance is four times its north–south distance. David Thornbury (born in 1948) is an American trick roper and saddle maker. Career Thornbury was born in 1948 and started lassoing at the age three, and stated there were "No computer games, no TV, no electronics — just the rope I grew up on." His father, J.D., was a trick horse rider who raised him traveling from rodeo to rodeo as his family performed on a Midwest circuit. As an adult, Thornbury first learned saddlery in Michigan but fine-tuned his art and tooling skills later from a Pima saddler named Mervyn Ringlero. Thornbury moved to California in the 1970s and became popular worldwide for his saddles and leather goods that included work for stuntmen in Hollywood. Walter de Thornbury (died 1313 in Ireland, 1313) was an English-born statesman and cleric who held the office of Lord Chancellor of Ireland in the 14th century. His efforts to secure confirmation of his election as Archbishop of Dublin ended in tragedy with his death in a shipwreck. Scott Thornbury (born 1950 in New Zealand) is an internationally recognized academic and teacher trainer in the field of English Language Teaching (ELT). Along with Luke Meddings, Thornbury is credited with developing the Dogme language teaching approach, which emphasizes meaningful interaction and emergent language over prepared materials and following an explicit syllabus. Thornbury has written over a dozen books on ELT methodology. Two of these, 'Natural Grammar' and 'Teaching Unplugged', have won the British Council's "ELTon" Award for Innovation, the top award in the industry (in 2004 and 2010, respectively). Gregory Alan Thornbury was formerly vice president of development at the New York Academy of Art in New York City. He was also formerly president of The King's College in New York City from 2013 to 2017, and chancellor from 2017 to 2018.
