The Wernt were a side project set up by members of British hardcore punk bands Charged GBH and English Dogs English Dogs were a British hardcore punk band that began life in the early eighties. Two versions of the band exist: the punk and metal crossover band featuring original drummer Andrew "Pinch" Pinching and second-era members Graham "Gizz" But ... in 1997. History In July 1997, GBH members Colin "Jock" Blyth (guitar) and Ross Lomas (bass/guitar) and English Dogs members Pete "Wakey" Wakefield (vocals) and Andrew "Pinch" Pinching (drums) recorded and mixed the album ''Wreckin Temples'' in nine days at Jigsaw Studio in Frognall. All music that appeared on the album was originally written in 1980 and 1981 by GBH and English Dogs but was never recorded. Grantham
Grantham () is a market town and civil parish in the South Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, England, situated on the banks of the River Witham and bounded to the west by the A1 road (Great Britain), A1 road. Side Project
In popular music, a side project is a project undertaken by one or more people already known for their involvement in another band. It can also be an artist or a band temporarily switching to a different style. Usually these projects emphasize a different aspect of that person's or that band's musical interests that they feel they cannot explore within the boundaries established by their main project. Side projects can later become full-time endeavours, but should not be confused with quitting a band for a solo career or another band. Peter Hartlaub of ''San Francisco Chronicle'' called the solo side project "the biggest longshot bet in mainstream music". ''The New York Times'' described the side project as "a break from the other band members, a chance to toy with different genres and recording methods, a fling with no long-term commitment". Charged GBH
GBH (originally known as Charged GBH) are an English punk rock band which was formed in 1978 by vocalist Colin Abrahall, guitarist Colin "Jock" Blyth, bassist Sean McCarthy (replaced by Ross Lomas after two years) and drummer Andy "Wilf" Williams. Background GBH were early pioneers of British street punk, often nicknamed " UK 82", along with Discharge, Broken Bones, The Exploited, and The Varukers. GBH have gone on to influence several punk rock musicians, but their influence has been especially far-reaching in metal, including the early Bathory albums, Hellhammer/Celtic Frost, Exodus, and all of the "big four of thrash metal" (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax). Metallica frontman James Hetfield has repeatedly expressed his enthusiasm for GBH and said such bands were the beginning of thrash metal to him. English Dogs
English Dogs were a British hardcore punk band that began life in the early eighties. Two versions of the band exist: the punk and metal crossover band featuring original drummer Andrew "Pinch" Pinching and second-era members Graham "Gizz" Butt and Adie Bailey, and a punk-based one featuring original vocalist Pete "Wakey" Wakefield. History English Dogs formed in October 1981 in Grantham and produced two demos during 1982, "Show No Mercy" and "Free To Kill". The band toured as support to fellow punk band Charged GBH in Germany during early 1983 and followed this with a British tour supporting Discharge. In 1983 they signed to Clay Records and released a six-track EP, ''Mad Punx And English Dogs'', in July 1983. English Dogs' first full-length album, ''Invasion of the Porky Men'', was released a year later.
