The Ocean Race 2022–23
The Ocean Race 2023 was the 14th edition of the round-the-world The Ocean Race. It started in Alicante, Spain. The COVID-19 pandemic forced the organizers to delay the race planned for 2021–22. Participants A total of 11 boats participated in the race, 5 in the IMOCA 60 class and 6 in the Volvo Ocean 65 class. ;IMOCA ;VO65 Route The route and stopover dates for the 2023 edition have been announced in December 2021. Robert Stanjek
Robert Stanjek (born 7 May 1981 in Rüdersdorf, Brandenburg) is a German sailor, who specialized in two-person keelboat (Star) class. He represented Germany, along with his partner Frithjof Kleen in the Star class at the 2012 Summer Olympics, and also captured a silver medal at the 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships in Perth, Australia. Stanjek has also been training throughout most of his sporting career for the North German Sailing Regatta () in Hamburg under his personal coach Alan Smith. As of November 2014, Stanjek is ranked eighth in the world for the two-person keelboat by the International Sailing Federation, following his first-place effort at the ISAF World Cup Series and Star World Championship in Malcesine, Italy. IMOCA 60 Malizia-Seaexplorer
Malizia-Seaexplorer (3) or Team Malizia (3), is an IMOCA 60 monohull sailing yacht, designed by VPLP and Boris Herrmann and constructed by Multiplast in France and launched on 19 July 2022. It has been designed for the Vendée Globe 2024, a solo tour of the world, but also participated in The Ocean Race 2023, a crewed around-the-world tour. Its skipper is the German yachtsman Boris Herrmann. During The Ocean Race 2023, the ship reached a new unofficial 24 hour distance record for monohulls with 640,70 nautical miles travelled. Design The first design principle was to build a boat, that performs well in Antarctic ocean on the foils. As a result, the hull is very voluminous in comparison to other IMOCAs of the same generation. Susann Beucke (born 11 June 1991) is a German sailor who competes offshore races of the Figaro Bénéteau 3 and IMOCA 60 classes. Before focusing on offshore sailing she competed in Olympic sailing, primarily in the 49er FX class, winning the silver medal in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo along with Tina Lutz, representing Germany. Kevin Escoffier is a French professional sailor born on 4 April 1980 in Saint-Malo, France and a resident of Lorient. He is an offshore sailor who has won the 2018 Volvo Ocean Race as a bowman onboard DongFeng and competed in the 2020–2021 Vendée Globe aboard PRB.
