Taučiūnai (formerly , ) is a village in Kėdainiai district municipality, in Kaunas County, in central Lithuania. According to the 2011 census, the village had a population of 60 people. It is located from Aristava, close to the A8 highway, on the shore of the Juodkiškiai Reservoir. There is a monument for the first Lithuanian volunteer soldier Povilas Lukšys, who died near Taučiūnai in 1919. History Taučiūnai has been known since 1375. Povilas Lukšys (soldier)
Povilas Lukšys (21 August 1886 – 8 February 1919) was the first Lithuanian Army soldier who died for the independence of Lithuania in the Lithuanian Wars of Independence. Biography Lukšys was born in in the present-day Panevėžys District Municipality. During World War I, Lukšys served in the Imperial Russian Army. When the Lithuanian army began to be recreated as Lithuania regained its independence, Lukšys organized a group of volunteers. He was an officer of the Kėdainiai defence squad, the commander of the field guard as well as the deputy head of the reconnaissance squad. In the Kėdainiai county, Lukšys was involved in battles against Soviet Russian units that were attacking in the direction of Kaunas. Lukšys died on 8 February 1919 while carrying out a reconnaissance mission near the village of Taučiūnai, where a fierce shootout took place. Lukšys was buried in the Kėdainiai cemetery. Aristava
Aristava (formerly ''Lukšiakaimis'', , ) is a village in Kėdainiai district municipality, in Kaunas County, in central Lithuania. According to the 2011 census, the village had a population of 489 people. It is located from Kėdainiai, next to the Bubliai Reservoir on the Obelis river, by the Malčius and the Malčius 2nd rivulets. There is a big road junction: the A8 highway, the road to Cinkiškiai via Kėdainiai (KK229), the road to Ukmergė (KK145). The village has a library, a former school, and a stock farm. History The Aristava manor of duke Algimantas has been known since 1371 when it was mentioned by Hermann von Wartberge. The former manor had been located in Aristavėlė but the last palace building was transferred to the Museum of Lithuanian Folk Life. The ''Visuotinė lietuvių enciklopedija'' or VLE () is a 25-volume universal Lithuanian-language encyclopedia published by the Science and Encyclopaedia Publishing Institute from 2001 to 2014. VLE is the first published universal encyclopedia in post-Soviet Lithuania (it replaces the former ''Lietuviškoji Tarybinė Enciklopedija'' which was published in thirteen volumes from 1976 to 1985). ''Folwark'' is a Polish word derived from the German ''Vorwerk''. A Folwark or Vorwerk is an agricultural estate or a separate branch operation of such an estate, historically a serfdom-based farm and agricultural enterprise (a type of latifundium), often very large. The term has changed its meaning several times throughout history and can therefore be used in various ways. Juodkiškiai Reservoir
The Juodkiškiai Reservoir is an artificial lake in Kėdainiai District Municipality, central Lithuania. It is located east from Kėdainiai, next to Taučiūnai village. It was created in 1980, when a dam on the Obelis river was built next to Juodkiškiai hamlet. In 1995, the dam was reconstructed and a small hydroelectric plant (of 510 kW) built. A8 Highway (Lithuania)
The A8 highway is a highway in Lithuania (Magistraliniai keliai). It runs from Panevėžys, through Kėdainiai bypass to the interchange with A1 highway (Lithuania), A1 highway near Sitkūnai. From there, the road continues to Kaunas, Vilnius, Klaipėda or Warsaw. The length of the road is 87.86 km. The speed limit along most of the road length is 90 km/h. It is one of the most important transit roads in the Baltic States (part of Via Baltica corridor). This route is part of International E-road network (part of European route E67). Counties Of Lithuania
The territory of Lithuania is divided into 10 counties ( Lithuanian: singular ''apskritis'', plural ''apskritys''), all named after their capitals.
