Talbot Yelverton, 1st Earl Of Sussex
Talbot Yelverton, 1st Earl of Sussex (2 May 169027 October 1731) was an English peer and member of the House of Lords, styled Hon. Talbot Yelverton until 1704, and known as Talbot Yelverton, 2nd Viscount Longueville from 1704 to 1717, when he was created Earl of Sussex. Life He was born the son of Henry Yelverton, 1st Viscount Longueville, and his wife, Barbara, daughter of Sir John Talbot of Lacock, Wiltshire and educated at Christ Church, Oxford. From 1722 to 1727, he was a Gentleman of the Bedchamber to George I, Appointed Deputy Earl Marshal in 1725, he presided over the ceremonies at the coronation of the latter monarch. He was one of the founder Knights Companion of the Order of the Bath in 1725 and was sworn of the Privy Council upon the accession of George II in 1727. He died in Bath, Somerset on 27October 1731 and was buried at Easton Maudit, Northamptonshire. A knight is a person granted an honorary title of a knighthood by a head of state (including the pope) or representative for service to the monarch, the church, or the country, especially in a military capacity. Earl of Sussex is a title that has been created several times in the Peerages of Peerage of England, England, Peerage of Great Britain, Great Britain, and the Peerage of the United Kingdom, United Kingdom. The early Earl of Arundel, Earls of Arundel (up to 1243) were often also called Earls of Sussex. The fifth creation came in the Peerage of Great Britain in 1717 in favour of Talbot Yelverton, 1st Earl of Sussex, Talbot Yelverton, 2nd Viscount Longueville. Viscount Longueville
Viscount Longueville was a title created twice, once in the Peerage of England and once in the Peerage of Ireland. On 21 April 1690, Henry Yelverton, 15th Baron Grey de Ruthyn was created Viscount Longueville in the Peerage of England. His son the second viscount, Talbot Yelverton, was created Earl of Sussex in 1717, with which title the viscountcy then merged, until both titles became extinct in 1799 on the death of the third Earl. On 1 October 1795, Richard Longfield was created Baron Longueville, of Longueville in the County of Cork, and on 29 December 1800, he was created Viscount Longueville, of Longueville in the County of Cork. Both titles were in the Peerage of Ireland. Both titles became extinct on his death in 1811. Brigadier-General Francis Howard, 1st Earl of Effingham ( bapt. 20 October 1683 – 12 February 1743) was an English peer and army officer. Francis was the second son of Francis Howard, 5th Baron Howard of Effingham. On 26 July 1722, he was commissioned captain and lieutenant-colonel in the 3rd Regiment of Foot Guards. Howard succeeded as Baron Howard of Effingham in 1725, with the death of his older brother Thomas Howard. He continued to rise in the Army, and was made lieutenant and lieutenant-colonel in the 1st Troop of Horse Grenadier Guards on 15 July 1731. He was created Earl of Effingham on 8 December of that year, and made a Deputy Earl Marshal on 13 December. The next year, on 22 July 1732, he received the colonelcy of a regiment of foot, which he held until 1737.
