State Basketball League
NBL1 West, formerly the State Basketball League (SBL), is a semi-professional basketball league in Western Australia, comprising both a men's and women's competition. In 2020, Basketball Western Australia partnered with the National Basketball League (NBL) to bring NBL1 to Western Australia. NBL1 replaced the former SBL to create more professional pathways and opportunities for males and females playing basketball in Western Australia. As a result, the SBL became the west conference of NBL1. History The State Basketball League originated in 1972 as the District Competition. Rohanee Cox
Rohanee "Roey" Cox (born 23 April 1980) is an Australian professional basketball player who currently plays for the Sydney Uni Flames of the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL). She was one of the first Aboriginal Australians to represent her country in basketball at the Olympics and won a silver medal with the Opals at the 2008 Summer Olympics. She has previously played for the Australian Institute of Sport, Perth Lynx, Townsville Fire and West Coast Waves. Lakeside Lightning is an NBL1 West club based in Perth, Western Australia. The club fields a team in both the Men's and Women's NBL1 West. The club is owned and managed by Lakeside Baptist Church. Matt Burston
Matthew Burston (born 25 November 1982) is an Australian professional basketball player who last played for the Cairns Taipans of the National Basketball League (NBL). He has also played in the State Basketball League for the Perry Lakes Hawks, and has spent time in the Qatari Basketball League and the Big V. Career Burston debuted in the NBL for the Perth Wildcats during the 2000–01 season, and played for them until 2006. In 2003, he won the NBL Most Improved Player Award. In April 2006, Burston signed a one-year deal with the South Dragons. Burston spent much of the 2006–07 season injured, playing only a handful of games. James Harvey (basketball)
James Harvey (born 15 February 1979) is an Australian former professional basketball player who played 15 seasons in the National Basketball League (NBL). Basketball career Born and raised in Perth, Harvey began playing for the Cockburn Cougars of the State Basketball League (SBL) in 1996 and won the league's Rookie of the Year award the following year. After another successful year in the SBL with the Perry Lakes Hawks in 1998, Harvey signed with the Perth Wildcats for the 1998–99 NBL season and continued playing for the Wildcats until 2004.
