Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2011
Iceland was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 with the song " Coming Home" written by Sigurjón Brink and Þórunn Erna Clausen. The song was performed by the tribute band Sjonni's Friends. Among the band members was Gunnar Ólason who previously represented Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2001 as part of the duo Two Tricky, where they placed twenty-second in the competition with the song "Angel". The Icelandic entry for the 2011 contest in Düsseldorf, Germany was selected through the national final ''Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2011'', organised by the Icelandic broadcaster Ríkisútvarpið (RÚV). The selection consisted of three semi-finals and a final, held on 15 January, 22 January, 29 January and 12 February 2011, respectively. Five songs competed in each semi-final with the top two/three as selected by a public televote advancing to the final. Hera Björk
Hera Björk Þórhallsdóttir (; born 29 March 1972) is an Icelandic singer. She is known for Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2010, representing Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 with the song "Je ne sais quoi (song), Je ne sais quoi", where she finished 19th in the Grand Final, and at the Viña del Mar International Song Festival 2013 with the song "Because You Can", where she won in the Best Song category. She was selected among the contestants of Söngvakeppnin 2024, the Icelandic national final for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, with the song "Við förum hærra" / "Scared of Heights". She qualified for the final and won with the English version, with which she represented Iceland in the contest for a second time, failing to qualify from the first semi-final on 7 May 2024, placing 15th out of 15 with 3 points. Matthías Matthíasson
Matthías Matthíasson (born 1975), also known as Matti Matt, is an Icelandic musician who was a member of the bands and Reggae on Ice. He took part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 as the vocalist of the tribute band Sjonni's Friends and was the singing voice of Sportacus in the children's television series ''LazyTown''. Life and career Matthías was born in and grew up in Dalvík in northern Iceland. In his youth, he performed in several musicals, such as ''Hair (musical), Hair'', and ''Jesus Christ Superstar'', where he played Peter. He was nominated for an Icelandic Music Award for "Best Newcomer" in 1995 for his acting in ''Jesus Christ Superstar''. In 1996, he was recruited by athlete Magnus Scheving to be the singing voice of Sportacus () in the original Icelandic ''LazyTown'' plays, ''Áfram Latibær!'' and ''Glanni Glæpur í Latabæ''. Gerard James Borg
Gerard James Borg is a Maltese songwriter, author, and concept creator. He is well known for writing multiple songs that competed in the Eurovision Song Contest. Borg has written six of the Maltese entries for the annual Eurovision Song Contest with composer Philip Vella. Their song "7th Wonder" sung by Ira Losco gave Malta 2nd place in the contest. This was the first time Malta reached 2nd place and it is the country's best result in the contest so far, alongside the 2nd place earned by Chiara with the song "Angel" in 2005. Borg and Vella also penned the song "Reaching Higher" as the official theme for the 2003 Games of the Small States of Europe which were held in Malta that year. Some of their compositions have also done well in foreign charts. Eiríkur Hauksson
Eiríkur Hauksson (born 4 July 1959) is an Icelandic heavy metal vocalist. He represented Iceland at Eurovision in 1986 and in 2007. Career Eiríkur's career as a vocalist began in earnest when the song "Sekur" he wrote and performed with the Icelandic rock group Start was voted the Icelandic song of the year in 1981. In 1984 Eiríkur's metal group Drýsill, released the album "Welcome to the show" which was released in 1000 copies. In 1985 Eiríkur recorded two songs, "Gaggó Vest" and "Gull", written by Gunnar Þórðarson that both became popular in Iceland. Although his interest went with the heavy metal genre, he participated in the pop music scene in Iceland, participating in many group efforts in the 1980s. In 1988 Eiríkur moved to Østfold in Norway to become the vocalist of the power metal group Artch. As their vocalist he's known as Eric Hawk. Magni Ásgeirsson
Guðmundur Magni Ásgeirsson (born 1 December 1978 in Egilsstaðir, Iceland), known professionally as Magni Ásgeirsson, is a singer, songwriter, and musician. He is also currently the frontman for the Icelandic pop band Á Móti Sól. Outside of Iceland, he is most famous for being a contestant on the CBS reality show '' Rock Star: Supernova''. Biography The third of four children, Magni was born in a small town in eastern Iceland. He lived on a farm in the village of Borgarfjörður Eystri. He was infatuated with music and performing at an early age, and started a band with his friends and cousins at the age of 11. By the time he was 15 years old, he was already performing on stage. As a teenager at Menntaskólin á Egilsstöðum, he used the school's musical facilities to hone his skills as a musician.
