Sydney River is an unincorporated community in Cape Breton Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia, Canada. The population in 2021 was 455. History In 1992, three employees were murdered and one permanently disabled during the Sydney River McDonald's murders. Geography The community is located at the southern end of Sydney Harbour's South Arm at the mouth of the Sydney River. The community is at the interchange between Highway 125 and Trunk 4. The river the connects Westmount and Coxheath goes between the bridge leading into Sydney River. Westmount () is a city on the Island of Montreal, in southwestern Quebec, Canada. It is an enclave of the city of Montreal, with a population of 19,658 as of the 2021 Canadian census. Transit Cape Breton is a public transport agency operating buses in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM), in Nova Scotia, Canada. Owned by the CBRM, Transit Cape Breton's operations area is the urban core in the eastern part of the municipality, namely Industrial Cape Breton, which includes the communities of Sydney, Glace Bay, North Sydney, Sydney Mines, Reserve Mines, and New Waterford. The 2021 Canadian census was a detailed enumeration of the Canada, Canadian population with a reference date of May 11, 2021. Coxheath
Coxheath is a village and civil parish within the Maidstone (borough), Borough of Maidstone, Kent, England. The parish is approximately south of Maidstone. It is mainly centred along Heath Road which links the villages of Yalding and Boughton Monchelsea to the west and east, respectively. A replica beacon pole and the village coat of arms celebrate the role that the village played as a signal bonfire site for many hundreds of years, although there is little visible evidence today of the area's location as a major army camp in the 18th century. More recently the village was home of a large workhouse that served a large part of mid-Kent during the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. The workhouse is now gone, although its chapel now serves as the village church. Nova Scotia Trunk 4
Trunk 4 is part of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia's system of Trunk Highways. The route runs from Highway 104 exit 7 near Thomson Station to Glace Bay. Until the construction of the Trans-Canada Highway, Trunk 4 was a major traffic link in northern Nova Scotia and Cape Breton, and is still used on Cape Breton as an alternative to Highway 105. The highway was originally called the King's Highway, however, this name is no longer applied to the entire road. Highway 125 is a 28 km long controlled-access highway located in Nova Scotia's Cape Breton Regional Municipality. The provincial government named it Peacekeepers Way on August 18, 2008. Part of the provincial 100-series arterial highway network, Highway 125 encircles the west side of Sydney Harbour, from an interchange with Highway 105 (the Trans-Canada Highway) at Sydney Mines to Trunk 4 (Grand Lake Road) immediately east of Sydney. Sydney River
The Sydney River is a short river located in Cape Breton County, Nova Scotia, Canada. Historically, it was also referred to as the Spanish River from the 18th century French name for its estuary, Baie d’Espagnols. It separates the communities of Coxheath and Westmount, on the north bank of the river, from Howie Centre, Sydney River, and Sydney on the south and east banks. Sydney River rises in Blacketts Lake and runs to its mouth, between the Westmount shore near Amelia Point and Battery Point on the Sydney shore, at the South Arm of Sydney Harbour, draining a watershed of 140 km south of the crest of the Coxheath Hills.
