Starčevo (Montenegro)
Starčevo () is a town located in the Pančevo municipality, in the South Banat District of Serbia. It is situated in the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina. The town has a Serb ethnic majority and its population is 6,661 people ( 2022 census). The name of the town means "the place of the old man" in Serbian (''starac'', "elder"). The Neolithic Starčevo culture was named after the Starčevo site. Vojvodina
Vojvodina ( ; sr-Cyrl, Војводина, ), officially the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, is an Autonomous administrative division, autonomous province that occupies the northernmost part of Serbia, located in Central Europe. It lies within the Pannonian Basin, bordered to the south by the national capital Belgrade and the Sava and Danube Rivers. The administrative centre, Novi Sad, is the second-largest city in Serbia. The historic regions of Banat, Bačka, Syrmia and northernmost part of Mačva overlap the province. Saint Maurus
Maurus, OSB (; ) (512–584) was an Catholic Church in Italy, Italian Catholic monk best known as the first disciple of Benedict of Nursia. He is mentioned in Gregory the Great's biography of the latter as the first oblate (religion), oblate, offered to the monastery by his noble Rome, Roman parents as a young boy to be brought up in the monastic life. Four stories involving Maurus recounted by Gregory formed a pattern for the ideal formation of a Benedictine monk. The most famous of these involved Maurus's rescue of Saint Placidus, Placidus, a younger boy offered to Benedict at the same time as Maurus. The incident has been reproduced in many medieval and Renaissance paintings. Starčevo Site
Starčevo ( sr-cyr, Старчево), also known as Grad (Град) is the eponymous archaeological site of the Starčevo culture that has been dated to the Early Neolithic period. It is located on the left bank of the Danube, north-west from the village of Starčevo and 8 kilometers south of Pančevo, Serbia. Starčevo site has been in central register from 1993 as an Immovable Cultural Heritage of Exceptional Importance (Serbia), Archaeological Site of Exceptional Importance. History The first systematic archeological digging started in 1928, exploration with the sond took place during 1931 and 1932 and that represented collaboration between Public museum and Harvard University. Starčevo Culture
The Starčevo culture is an archaeological culture of Southeastern Europe, dating to the Neolithic period between ''c.'' 6200 and 4500 BCE.Istorijski atlas, Intersistem Kartografija, Beograd, 2010, page 11. It originates in the spread of the Neolithic package of peoples and technological innovations including farming and ceramics from Anatolia to the area of Sesklo. The Starčevo culture marks its spread to the inland Balkan peninsula as the Cardial ware culture did along the Adriatic coastline. It forms part of the wider Starčevo–Körös–Criş culture which gave rise to the central European Linear Pottery culture c. 700 years after the initial spread of Neolithic farmers towards the northern Balkans.
