The Kenya Open, currently titled as the Magical Kenya Open for sponsorship reasons, is a professional golf tournament in Kenya founded in 1967. History The Kenya Open was an associate event on the Far East Circuit in 1967 and 1968, after which it became a cornerstone of the emerging Safari Circuit – a collection of tournaments initially in Kenya and Zambia, and then later in Nigeria, Ivory Coast and Zimbabwe. The European Tour, who had taken over running of the Safari Tour in the late 1970s, began to expand globally through the 1980s and those events formally became part of the second tier Challenge Tour in 1991. With the exception of the 1994 event, the Kenya Open remained on the Challenge Tour schedule until 2019 when it was elevated to the elite European Tour schedule. Christy O'Connor Jnr
Christy O'Connor Jnr (born Christopher O'Connor; 19 August 1948 – 6 January 2016) was an Irish professional golfer. He is best known for defeating American Fred Couples at the 1989 Ryder Cup, helping Europe secure the trophy. Early life O'Connor was born in Salthill, Knocknacarra, Ireland in 1948. Masahiro Kawamura
is a Japanese professional golfer who plays on the European Tour, having previously played on the Japan Golf Tour and the Asian Tour. Kawamura won his first title in 2013 at the Asia-Pacific Panasonic Open on the Japan Golf Tour, a tournament also co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour. In November 2020, Kawamura recorded his best finish to his European Tour career when he finished runner-up at the Aphrodite Hills Cyprus Showdown; one shot behind Robert MacIntyre. Jorge Campillo (born 1 June 1986) is a Spanish professional golfer who plays on the European Tour. He has three European Tour wins, the 2019 Trophée Hassan II, the 2020 Commercial Bank Qatar Masters and the 2023 Magical Kenya Open. Amateur career After attending the Spanish national training centre as a junior, Campillo elected to play college golf at Indiana University in the United States. Campillo would go on to become one of the most successful players in the university's history, winning nine intercollegiate titles and being named to the Golfweek First Team All-American squad. The 2023 European Tour, titled as the 2023 DP World Tour for sponsorship reasons, was the 52nd season of the European Tour, the main professional golf tour in Europe since its inaugural season in 1972. It was the second season of the tour under a title sponsorship agreement with DP World, that was announced in November 2021. Ignacio "Nacho" Elvira Mijares (born 17 February 1987) is a Spanish professional golfer who plays on the European Tour. Amateur career Elvira played college golf at Texas A&M University where he won one event and was a two-time All-American. Professional career Elvira played on the Challenge Tour in 2012 and 2013, finishing 104th and then 14th. Joseph Dean (born 23 June 1994) is an English professional golfer and European Tour player. In 2024, he was runner-up at the Magical Kenya Open and the KLM Open. Amateur career Dean was born in Sheffield and is attached to College Pines GC. In 2012, he was runner-up at the Fairhaven Trophy, and in 2013 won the Dutch Junior Open. He represented England in the Boys Home Internationals and the Men's Home Internationals. Dean won the 2015 English Amateur at Alwoodley Golf Club, beating Alfie Plant in the final 9 and 7. Darius Arjen Joel van Driel (born 2 June 1989) is a Dutch professional golfer who plays on the European Tour. John Parry (golfer)
John Anthony Parry (born 17 November 1986) is an English professional golfer who plays on the European Tour, where he has won twice. Early life and career Parry was born in Harrogate. He won several high-profile amateur tournaments including the Danish and Spanish Amateur Championships, and represented Great Britain and Ireland in the Walker Cup before turning professional at the end of 2007. Asia Golf Circuit
The Asia Golf Circuit was the principal men's professional golf tour in Southeast Asia from the early 1960s through to the mid-late 1990s. The tour was founded in 1961 as the Far East Circuit. The first series of five tournaments was held in 1962 and consisted of the national open championships of the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong, plus a final tournament held in Japan. The tour gradually grew over the subsequent years, eventually becoming a regular ten tournament circuit in 1974.
