Šamorín (; hu, Somorja, german: Sommerein) is a small town in western Slovakia, southeast of Bratislava. Etymology The name is derived from a patron saint of a local church Sancta Maria, mentioned for the first time as ''villa Sancti Marie'' (1285). Today's name is an adaptation of the original name: ''Zent Maria – Samaria – Somoria – Šamorín''. Geography The town is located on the Danubian Flat in the Žitný ostrov island, near the Gabčíkovo dam by the Danube around southeast of Bratislava and west of Dunajská Streda. Administratively, the town belongs to the Trnava Region, Dunajská Streda District. History The oldest artifacts indicating the settlement of the area are dated to the Neolithic and Eneolithic Period. The settlement of the location is documented also for the Bronze Age and the Iron Age. Chris Landman (born 17 January 1981) is a Dutch professional darts player, currently playing in the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. Career In 2017, Landman won the Catalonian Open, reached the quarter-final of the WDF World Cup Singles, and reached the Last 16 of the World Masters. Lorraine Winstanley (née Farlam, born 28 October 1975) is an English darts player who plays in both World Darts Federation (WDF) and Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. Career Winstanley won the 2011 Romanian International Darts Open beating Jane Shearing 5–1 in the final. She qualified for the 2011 BDO World Darts Championship, where she lost 0–2 to Irina Armstrong in the quarter-finals. The following year, she went one step further by making it through to the semi-finals, where she was narrowly defeated by Deta Hedman in a last leg decider. Lisa Ashton
Lisa Ashton (born 27 August 1970) is an English professional darts player who currently plays in World Darts Federation (WDF) and Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. She is a four-time BDO World Darts Women's Champion and has won over 100 titles in women's darts. In 2020, she became the first woman to win a PDC Tour Card at the PDC Q-School. Sebastian Steyer (born 18 February 1980) is a Polish professional darts player, entrepreneur and former footballer who played as a defender in local football club. Adam Smith-Neale (born 29 October 1993) is an English professional darts player. Darts career Early career Smith-Neale started playing in the PDC at the age of 17 in 2011 when he entered the World Youth Championships and lost in the last 64 to Lewis Venes. Wesley Harms (born 11 June 1984) is a Dutch former professional darts player. Career Harms won the BDO International Open in 2011, defeating Stephen Bunting in the final. Martin Phillips (born 30 April 1960) is a Welsh former professional darts player who competed in the British Darts Organisation (BDO). He won the 2014 World Masters championship. Darts career 1988–1994 Phillips was born in Dolgellau, and made his first televised darts appearance at the 1988 British Professional Championship reaching the last 16. In 1991, he appeared at his first World Championship losing in the first round to the defending champion Phil Taylor.
