Skärholmen Borough
Skärholmen is a suburban area in the district of Söderort in south-western Stockholm, Sweden. Together with Bredäng, Sätra and Vårberg, it forms the borough of Skärholmen. The community primarily consisting of ''Million Programme'' style apartment buildings from the 1960s and early 1970s. It is one of the larger and more well known suburbs of Stockholm. Söderort
Söderort (literally "the southern place", sometimes translated to ''South Stockholm'') is the southern suburban part of the Stockholm Municipality, Sweden. It is also part of the city of Stockholm. Geography Söderort is located in the northern part of the Södertörn peninsula/island. Bredäng is a district of Söderort, Stockholm, Sweden. In the southwest section of the city, it is a part of the Skärholmen borough and is named after a former farm in the area. Bredäng has an 18th-century mansion (''Jakobsbergs gård'') named after its first owner, Jacob Graver. Sätra
Sätra is a suburb in the district in Söderort in Stockholm, Sweden. Location The district is bounded on the north by Lake Mälaren and on the south by Södertalje Road, a section of European route E4 and European route E20. Sätra borders the districts of Bredäng and Skärholmen, as well as Segeltorp in Huddinge municipality and Kungshatt in Ekerö municipality. History The City of Stockholm bought the land in 1934 A.D. A new general plan for Sätra was drawn up the day after. Construction began in 1964 and four years later the entire district was almost completed. Vårberg
Vårberg is a suburb in the Skärholmen borough in the Söderort region of Stockholm, Sweden. Location Vårberg borders Skärholmen, Vårby gård, Huddinge, Estbröte, Kungshatt, and Ekerö. It has an area of 197 hectares of land and 65 hectares of water. Its population is 8,454 as of 31 December 2007. Vårberg contains the highest natural point in Stockholm, Vikingaberget, which is 77.24 meters above sea level. Vårberg also includes Vårbergstoppen, an artificial hill which was built from spoil from the excavation the Stockholm metro and which at 90 meters above sea level is the highest point of land in Stockholm. Million Programme
The Million Programme () was a large public housing program implemented in Sweden between 1965 and 1974 by the governing Swedish Social Democratic Party to ensure the availability of affordable, high-quality housing to all Swedish citizens. The program sought to construct one million new housing dwellings over a ten-year period, which it accomplished. As part of its intention to modernize Swedish housing, it also demolished many older buildings that national and local governments considered obsolescent, unhealthy or derelict. At the time, the intention to build one million new homes in a nation with a population of eight million made the Million Programme the most ambitious building programme in the world.
