Sister (Ultraísta Album)
''Sister'' is the second studio album by British experimental rock trio Ultraísta. It was released on 13 March 2020 under Partisan Records. It was released immediately prior to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, leading to the album's promotional roll-out, touring, and subsequent interviews being affected. Release The first single "Tin King" was released on 14 January 2020, with two more singles "Anybody" and "Harmony" following in the coming months. "Ordinary Boy" was released as a single in September of 2020 along with a remix EP following on 6 November. An additional extended play, ''Sister Remix EP'', for the album released on 12 March 2021, featuring remixes from Zero 7, Grenda, Portico Quartet, Erland Cooper, and Harvey Causon. Ultraísta is an English-American experimental rock trio, formed in 2008. The band consists of Atoms for Peace members Nigel Godrich and Joey Waronker, alongside Laura Bettinson. The band's self-titled debut album was released on 2 October 2012. The band's biography notes that it was "conceived from a love of afrobeat, electronica, art and inspired by tequila". History Initially a collaboration between Nigel Godrich and Joey Waronker, Ultraísta became a three-piece with the addition of Laura Bettinson in 2010. The band's name is taken from the Spanish literary movement ultraism. The band released their first album in 2012, followed by a remix album. In 2019, the band announced via social media that it would be returning, releasing a deluxe edition of their self-titled debut on 22 November. Joey Waronker
Jon Joseph Waronker (born May 20, 1969) is an American drummer and music producer. He has performed with acts including Beck, R.E.M., Oasis and Roger Waters, and is a member of the experimental rock bands Atoms for Peace and Ultraísta. Background Waronker was born in Los Angeles, the son of producer and former Warner Bros. Records President Lenny Waronker, and actress and musician Donna Loren. He has two sisters (one being musician Anna Waronker) and two half-sisters. His grandfather was classical violinist Simon Waronker, namesake for the Simon character in the Alvin and the Chipmunks franchise. Joey was a student of Freddie Gruber. Drumming career Walt Mink Waronker's first professional project was the alternative rock band Walt Mink, which he helped form while attending Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1989. Laura Bettinson (born 20 September 1987), also known by her stage names Femme and Lau.ra, is an English singer, songwriter, producer and DJ. She started writing music at 16, gigging around the Midlands area before moving to London to study Bmus Popular Music at Goldsmiths, University of London. History Bettinson grew up in Dunchurch just outside Rugby, Warwickshire, where she attended Rugby High School for Girls. Her father is the West End theatre director and writer Rob Bettinson and her brother is shipping magnate Scott Bettinson. In 2003, aged 16, she won the Coventry and Warwickshire Teen Idol competition. Portico Quartet
Portico Quartet are an instrumental band from London, United Kingdom. They are known for their use of the Hang (instrument), hang, a modern percussion instrument. Their debut album, ''Knee-Deep in the North Sea'', was nominated for the 2008 Mercury Prize and was ''Time Out (magazine), Time Out's'' Jazz, Folk and World album of the year 2007. The group consists of Duncan Bellamy (drums and electronics), Jack Wyllie (saxophones and keyboards), Milo Fitzpatrick (electric and double-bass) and Keir Vine (keyboards). Zero 7 is an English musical duo consisting of Henry Binns and Sam Hardaker. Both of them began as studio engineers and in 1997 formed the group Zero 7. Their debut album, '' Simple Things'', was released in 2001; their song "Destiny" stayed in the top 100 of the UK Single Charts. Subsequent albums include ''When It Falls'', '' The Garden'', and '' Yeah Ghost''. After studying sound engineering, Binns and Hardaker began their careers in the music industry in the 1990s at Mickie Most's RAK Studios in London, engineering music for British groups like Pet Shop Boys, Young Disciples, and Robert Plant.
