Sir John St Aubyn, 5th Baronet
Sir John St Aubyn, 5th Baronet (17 May 1758 – 10 August 1839), was a British Member of Parliament (United Kingdom), Member of Parliament, High Sheriff of Cornwall and Grand Master of the Freemasons. Born in London, he succeeded to the baronetcy on 12 October 1772, at which point he inherited Clowance, the family's estate near Crowan, Cornwall. Life John St Aubyn was born on 17 May 1758 at Golden Square, London. His parents were Sir John St Aubyn, 4th Baronet, who was a Member of Parliament, and his wife, Elizabeth Wingfield; their daughter Catherine St Aubyn, two years John's junior, became an amateur artist. St Aubyn attended Westminster School between 1773 and 1777. He then spent three years in France, where he had a relationship with an Italian woman and had a daughter. William Macarmick
William Macarmick (baptised 15 September 1742 – 20 August 1815) was Lieutenant-Governor of Cape Breton and an MP. Early life and military service Macarmick was born in Truro, Cornwall, Great Britain, into a family active in local politics in business. His father James was a wine merchant and served as the local mayor. Macarmick was educated at the Truro Grammar School, and followed his father into both the wine business and politics, winning the mayoral office of Truro in 1770. Before his political career began however, Macarmick served in the British Army. Acquiring a lieutenant's commission in the 75th Regiment of Foot in 1759, he was in 1764 promoted to captain in the 46th Foot before being placed on half pay. When the American Revolutionary War broke out, Macarmick at his own expense recruited and established the 93rd Regiment of Foot, winning appointment as its colonel in February 1780. A baronet ( or ; abbreviated Bart or Bt) or the female equivalent, a baronetess (, , or ; abbreviation Btss), is the holder of a baronetcy, a hereditary title awarded by the British Crown. The title of baronet is mentioned as early as the 14th century; however, in its current usage it was created by James I of England in 1611 as a means of raising funds for the crown. William Horne (Liberal Politician)
Sir William Horne (2 December 1773 – 13 July 1860) was a British barrister and Liberal politician. Background and education The son of the Reverend Thomas Horne of Chiswick, Horne studied law at Lincoln's Inn, being called to the bar in 1798. Legal and political career In 1812, Horne was elected as a Whig Member of Parliament for Helston in Cornwall. He only served as the town's MP for a single term, and was unseated at the next election in 1818. On losing his seat, he returned to the law, becoming a king's counsel and bencher of Lincoln's Inn. He distinguished himself in the courts of chancery, and was briefly attorney-general to Queen Adelaide. On 26 November 1830, Horne was appointed Solicitor-General for England, at which time he was knighted. The office required him to hold a seat in parliament, and he was duly returned as member for Bletchingley on 18 February 1831. Thomas Brand, 20th Baron Dacre (25 March 1774 – 21 March 1851) was a British peer and Whig politician. Background Dacre was the eldest son of Thomas Brand, of The Hoo, Hertfordshire, and Gertrude, 19th Baroness Dacre, daughter of the Hon. Charles Roper. Military career He raised and commanded the Kimpton Volunteer Rifles, a part-time unit of the Volunteer Corps formed in 1803. In 1808 the volunteers were replaced by the Local Militia, and Brand commanded the Midland Battalion, Hertfordshire Local Militia, based at Hitchin. Political career Dacre entered Parliament for Helston in January 1807, a seat he only held until May of the same year, when he was returned for Hertfordshire. He continued to represent this constituency until 1819, when he succeeded his mother in the barony of Dacre and entered the House of Lords.
