Sigurður Þorvaldsson
Sigurður Ágúst Þorvaldsson (born 25 November 1980) is an Icelandic basketball player and a former member of the Icelandic national team. During his career, he won the Icelandic championship and the Icelandic Cup four times each. He was a four-time Úrvalsdeild Domestic All-First Team member and in 2005 he was named the Úrvalsdeild Domestic Player of the Year. In 2010, Sigurður was found guilty of rape and sentenced to two years in prison. Basketball career After spending his first five seasons with ÍR and Snæfell, Sigurður signed with Woon!Aris Leeuwarden in Netherlands in 2005. Forward (basketball)
Basketball is a sport with five players on the court for each team at a time. Each player is assigned to different Position (team sports), positions defined by the strategic role they play. Guard, forward and center are the three main position categories. The standard team features two guards, two forwards, and a center. The guards are typically called the "back court" and the forwards and centers the "front court". Over time, as more specialized roles developed, each of the guards and forwards came to be differentiated. The Icelandic basketball league system, or Icelandic basketball league pyramid, is a series of League system, interconnected competitions for basketball clubs in Iceland. The system has a hierarchical format with a promotion and relegation, promotion and demotion system between competitions at different levels. The Supreme Court of Iceland (, , ) is the final court of appeal in the judiciary of Iceland. It is also the oldest of the current courts of law in Iceland and the highest of the three Icelandic court branches, the others being the District Courts of Iceland and the Court of Appeal (Landsréttur). It is currently the country's only daily printed newspaper and the newspaper of record. The 2017–18 Úrvalsdeild karla was the 67th season of the Úrvalsdeild karla (basketball), Úrvalsdeild, the top tier men's basketball league in Iceland. The season started on October 5, 2017 and ended on April 28, 2018. KR men's basketball, KR won its fifth title in a row by defeating Tindastóll (Basketball), Tindastóll 3–1 in the Finals. Competition format The participating teams first played a conventional round-robin schedule with every team playing each opponent once home and once away for a total of 22 games.
