The Shreveport–Bossier City–Minden combined statistical area is made up of four parishes in North Louisiana, northwestern Louisiana. The statistical area consists of the Shreveport–Bossier City metropolitan statistical area and the Webster Parish, Louisiana, Minden micropolitan statistical area. As of the United States Census, 2010, 2010 census, the CSA had a population of 439,000 (though a July 1, 2011, estimate placed the population at 444,000). Oil City, Louisiana
Oil City is a small town in Caddo Parish, Louisiana. The population was 1,008 at the time of the 2010 census. Oil City is located on Louisiana Highway 1, north of Caddo Lake. It is part of the Shreveport– Bossier City Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The park in Oil City is named for Earl Williamson. The local politician served for 40 years on the Caddo Parish police jury (1933 to 1972) and again from 1979 to 1980. He served as mayor of Vivian from 1938 to 1946, and again from 1962 to 1966. John Charles "Chip" Dickey, Jr., the mayor from 2005 until his death in office in 2016 at the age of sixty, pushed for economic ventures, including the community center and restaurants. Logansport, Louisiana
Logansport is a town in western DeSoto Parish adjacent to the Sabine River in western Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,340 in 2020. It is part of the Shreveport– Bossier City metropolitan statistical area. History The area, long a disputed boundary even after the Louisiana Purchase, was part of a neutral territory negotiated by Gen. James Wilkinson and Lt. Col. Simón de Herrera on November 6, 1806. The Adams–Onís Treaty of 1819, that was not ratified until 1821, would have been a solution but in 1821 Mexico's independence reignited the dispute. Dr. Logan moved to the area in 1830 began practicing medicine in Louisiana and Texas. He chartered a ferry business in the area and it became known as Logan's Ferry. Keachi (pronounced "key-chai"; also spelled Keatchie or Keachie) is a town in DeSoto Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 295 at the 2010 census. Cullen, Louisiana
Cullen is a town just south of Springhill in northern Webster Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,163 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minden Micropolitan Statistical Area. Bobby Ray Washington, the former mayor of Cullen, served as president and vice president of the Louisiana Municipal Association. He resigned from office when questions arose about his residency in Shreveport. Washington was succeeded in March 2012 by Dexter Turner, a former police detective in Springhill. Turner was elected to a full term as mayor in December 2012 and died on March 22, 2013, of an apparent heart attack at the age of forty-nine. Cotton Valley is a town in central Webster Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,010 at the 2010 census. History Mayoral history Cotton Valley was established in the mid-19th century, and incorporated in 1944 when J. B. Roby, a Democrat, became its first mayor. In 1946, Roby was succeeded by A. C. Borland, who served a total of 22 years. An insurance agent, Borland did not seek reelection in 1968 and was succeeded by E. M. Hollingsworth. Benton, Louisiana
Benton is a town in, and the parish seat of, Bossier Parish, in the U.S. state of Louisiana. The population was 2,048 in 2020. The town is named for 19th century U.S. Senator Thomas Hart Benton, a Democrat from Missouri and an ally of U.S. President Andrew Jackson. History On April 3, 1999, a powerful F4 tornado roared through portions of the town killing six people and injuring 90. Springhill, Louisiana
Springhill is a small city in the northernmost of Webster Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 5,279 at the 2010 census, a decrease of 160 since 2000. Springhill is part of the Minden Micropolitan Statistical Area though it is thirty miles north of Minden, the seat of government of Webster Parish. The Springhill population is 34 percent African American, compared to 25 percent minority in 2000. History Webster Parish was first permanently settled about 1818 near Overton south of the parish seat of Minden. According to genealogical findings, William Farmer, Samuel Monzingo, J. A. Byrnes, and Joseph Murrell were the first settlers in the area. These settlers formed an area that was initially referred to informally as "Piney Woods." Minden is a small city in and the parish seat of Webster Parish, Louisiana, United States. It is located twenty-eight miles east of Shreveport. As of the 2020 census, the city had a total population of 11,928.
