Sharafat
''Sharafat'' is a 1970 Hindi romantic drama film, directed by Asit Sen, starring Ashok Kumar, Dharmendra, Hema Malini in lead roles. Hema Malini plays the role of a feisty tawaif(courtesan) Chanda in search of her father, in this satire about society's hypocritical moral standards.''Thought'', 5 September 1970, ''p. 20''. The screenplay was written by Nabendu Ghosh, while the dialogues were by Hindi satirist Krishan Chander (author of such dark classics of Black Humor & Satire as ''Ek Gadhe Ki Aatmkatha'' (An Autobiography Of A Donkey). Asit Sen (director)
Asit Sen (24 September 1922 – 25 August 2001) was an Indian film director, cinematographer, documentary Filmmaker and screenwriter, who worked in both Bengali and Hindi cinema. He was born in Dhaka, British India. He directed 17 feature films in Hindi and Bengali, and was most known for the films '' Deep Jweley Jai'' (1959) and ''Uttar Falguni ''(1963) in Bengali, (1966), '' Khamoshi'' (1969), (1968) and ''Safar'' (1970) in Hindi. Krishan Chander
Krishan Chander (23 November 1914 – 8 March 1977) was an Indian Urdu and Hindi writer of short stories and novels. Some of his works have also been translated into English. He was a prolific writer, penning over 20 novels, 30 collections of short stories and scores of radio plays in Urdu, and later, after partition in 1947, took to writing in Hindi as well. He also wrote screen-plays for Bollywood movies to supplement his meagre income as an author of satirical stories. Krishan Chander's novels (including the classic: ''Ek Gadhe Ki Sarguzasht'', 'Autobiography of a Donkey') have been translated into over 16 Indian languages and some foreign languages, including English. Tawaif
A ''tawaif'' () was a highly successful courtesan singer‚ dancer‚ and poet who catered to the nobility of the Indian subcontinent, particularly during the Mughal era. Many tawaifs (" nautch girls" to the British) were forced to go into prostitution due to a lack of opportunities by the time of the British Raj. Known variously as ''tawaifs'' in North India, ''Baijis'' in Bengal and ''naikins'' in Goa, these professional singers and dancers were dubbed as “ nautch girl” during the British rule. Nabendu Ghosh (27 March 1917 – 15 December 2007) was an Indian author in Bengali literature, and screenwriter. He has written screenplays of classic Bollywood movies like, Sujata, Bandini, Devdas, Majhli Didi, Abhimaan and Teesri Kasam. He has written stories for movies like Baap Beti, Shatranj, Raja Jani. Kanhaiyalal (1910 14 August 1982) was an Indian actor who acted in 122 films in his career, primarily in Hindi films produced in Bollywood, the Mumbai-based film industry. Early life Kanhaiyalal was born in 1910 in Varanasi. His father Pandit Bhairodutt Choube, popularly known as Choubeji, was the proprietor of the Sanatan Dharm Natak Samaj in Varanasi. With his father not in agreement with him taking up any form of stage work, he eventually wore out his father's opposition and did odd jobs in the troupe.
