Socialist Health Association
The Socialist Health Association (SHA, called the Socialist Medical Association before May 1981) is a socialist medical association based in the United Kingdom. It is affiliated to the Labour Party as a socialist society. History The Socialist Medical Association was founded in 1930 to campaign from within the Labour Party for a National Health Service in the United Kingdom and absorbed many of those who had been active in the State Medical Service Association, which collapsed as a result. The inaugural meeting was convened by Charles Wortham Brook, a doctor with links to the Labour Party who was a member of the London County Council (LCC) during the period when the LCC developed its municipal hospitals. Brook was the first Secretary of the Association, remaining in office until 1938. Many of those involved in the Association volunteered for the Spanish Medical Aid Committee in the Spanish Civil War. Somerville Hastings was founder President of the Socialist Medical Ass ...

Handicap (golf)
A golf handicap is a numerical measure of a golfer's ability, or potential ability, that is used to enable players of different abilities to compete against one another. Better players are those with the lowest handicaps. Historically, rules relating to handicaps have varied from country to country with many different systems in force around the world. Because of incompatibilities and difficulties in translating between systems, the sport's governing bodies, the USGA and The R&A, working with the various existing handicapping authorities, devised a new World Handicap System (WHS) which began to be introduced globally in 2020. History The earliest record of golf handicapping is thought to be from the late 17th century, in a diary kept by Thomas Kincaid, who was a student in Edinburgh, Scotland, although the word ''handicap'' would not come into use in golf until the late 19th century. The number of strokes to be given and the holes on which they would be in effect was negotiated ...

Shareholders' Agreement
A shareholders' agreement (sometimes referred to in the U.S. as a stockholders' agreement) (SHA) is an enforceable agreement amongst the shareholders or members of a company. In practical effect, it is analogous to a partnership agreement. There are advantages of the shareholder's agreement: they provide a contractual remedy if their terms are broken, and they can help the corporate entity to maintain the absence of publicity and maintain confidentiality. Nonetheless, there are also some disadvantages that should be considered, such as the limited effect to the third parties (especially assignees and share purchasers) and that alteration of the terms of an agreement can be time consuming. Purpose In strict legal theory, the relationships amongst the shareholders and those between the shareholders and the company are regulated by the constitutional documents of the company. However, where there are a relatively small number of shareholders, like in a startup company, it is quite ...

Sha (animal)
In ancient Egyptian art, the Set animal, or ''sha'', is the affiliated animal of the god Set. Because Set was identified with the Greek monster Typhon, the animal is also commonly known as the Typhonian animal or Typhonic beast. Unlike other totemic animals, the Set animal is not easily identifiable in the modern, animal world. Today, there is a general agreement among Egyptologists that it was never a real creature and existed only in ancient Egyptian religion. In recent years, there have been many attempts by zoologists to find the Set animal in nature. Whether or not the animal existed is currently unknown, yet it had much significance for the Egyptians. The Set animal is one of the most frequently demonstrated animal determinatives. Some Egyptian texts suggest that Set took the form of a dangerous animal, such as a bull or crocodile. Hieroglyphic representation The Set animal, Gardiner E20, E21, is one of the portrayals of the god Set. The other common hieroglyph use ...

Shore Durometer
The Shore durometer is a device for measuring the hardness of a material, typically of polymers. Higher numbers on the scale indicate a greater resistance to indentation and thus harder materials. Lower numbers indicate less resistance and softer materials. The term is also used to describe a material's rating on the scale, as in an object having a "'Shore durometer' of 90." The scale was defined by Albert Ferdinand Shore, who developed a suitable device to measure hardness in the 1920s. It was neither the first hardness tester nor the first to be called a ''durometer'' ( ISV '' duro-'' and '' -meter''; attested since the 19th century), but today that name usually refers to Shore hardness; other devices use other measures, which return corresponding results, such as for Rockwell hardness. Durometer scales There are several scales of durometer, used for materials with different properties. The two most common scales, using slightly different measurement systems, are the AST ...

A SHA instruction set is a set of extensions to the x86 and ARM architecture, ARM instruction set architecture which support hardware acceleration of Secure Hash Algorithm (SHA) family. It was specified in 2013 by Intel. Sidereal Hour Angle
In astronomy and celestial navigation, the hour angle is the dihedral angle between the '' meridian plane'' (containing Earth's axis and the zenith) and the ''hour circle'' (containing Earth's axis and a given point of interest). It may be given in degrees, time, or rotations depending on the application. The angle may be expressed as negative east of the meridian plane and positive west of the meridian plane, or as positive westward from 0° to 360°. The angle may be measured in degrees or in time, with 24h = 360° exactly. In celestial navigation, the convention is to measure in degrees westward from the prime meridian (Greenwich hour angle, GHA), from the local meridian (local hour angle, LHA) or from the first point of Aries (sidereal hour angle, SHA). The hour angle is paired with the declination to fully specify the location of a point on the celestial sphere in the equatorial coordinate system. Relation with right ascension The local hour angle (LHA) of an object ...

What Is Intelligence?
''What Is Intelligence?: Beyond the Flynn Effect'' is a book by psychologist James R. Flynn which outlines his model for an explanation of the eponymous Flynn effect. The book summarizes much of the work of Flynn in this area, as well as that of his colleague William Dickens of the Brookings Institution. The four "paradoxes" of the Flynn effect The book begins with a description of what has generally become known as "the Flynn effect": the steady rise from one generation to the next in average scores on IQ tests over time. Flynn notes that this effect apparently contradicts some fundamental beliefs about IQ long held by human intelligence researchers, and categorizes these contradictions into four seeming "paradoxes": # The factor analysis paradox – past research has shown evidence for a single factor, " g" or general intelligence, underlying IQ. However, the Flynn effect happens to different degrees in the sub-tests of the WISC test, suggesting that intelligence as measur ...
