Save Live Australian Music
The 2010 Melbourne live music rally, (commonly known as the Save Live Australia's Music (SLAM) rally) was a public rally held on 23 February 2010, in the Melbourne central business district, Australia. The rally was an act of protest against effects of Alcohol laws of Australia, liquor licensing laws on Music of Melbourne, live music venues in the city. Attendance was estimated at 10,000 to 20,000 by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. Background The Tote Hotel, located in the inner-city Melbourne suburb of Collingwood, Victoria, Collingwood, closed in January 2010, due to the owners' inability to continue payments related to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT)'s regulations that deemed live music venues that opened beyond 1am "high risk". Swanston Street
Swanston Street is a major thoroughfare in the Melbourne central business district, Victoria, Australia. It was laid out in 1837 as part of the original Hoddle Grid. The street vertically bisects Melbourne's city centre and is famous as the world's busiest Trams in Melbourne, tram corridor, for its heritage buildings and as a shopping strip. Spiderbait is an Australian alternative rock band from Finley, New South Wales, formed in 1989 by bass guitarist and singer Janet English, drummer and singer Kram, and guitarist Damian Whitty. In 2004, the group's cover version of the 1930s Lead Belly song " Black Betty" reached number one on the ARIA Singles Chart. Wilbur Wilde (born Nicholas Robert Aitken on 5 October 1955) is an Australian saxophonist, television personality and radio presenter. He is best known for his work on ''Hey Hey It's Saturday''. Timothy Adrian Rogers (born September 20, 1969) is an Australian musician and actor, best known as the frontman of the rock band You Am I. He has also recorded solo albums with backing bands. As of July 2013, Rogers has released 12 albums with You Am I and five solo albums. Early life Born in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, Rogers moved between towns multiple times during his adolescence, including Adelaide and Canberra. Following his primary school years in Applecross, a suburb of Perth, Rogers later became school captain at Sydney school Oakhill College. Rogers studied law at the Australian National University in Canberra, aged 18, though did not complete a degree. Paul Anthony Dempsey (born 25 May 1976) is an Australian musician. He is best known as the lead singer, guitarist and principal lyricist of rock group Something for Kate.
