Samuel Womack
Samuel Womack III (born July 7, 1999) is an American football cornerback for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Toledo. High school Womack attended East English Village Preparatory Academy in Detroit, Michigan. As a senior, he gained over 1,000 receiving yards, caught 20 touchdown passes, and made 11 interceptions which earned him All-State honors. College career Womack was a member of the Toledo Rockets for five seasons. In 2020, he was nominated for the Burlsworth Trophy. He finished his college career with 126 tackles and 4.5 tackles for loss with 39 passes defended and five interceptions in 53 games played. A cornerback (CB) is a member of the defensive backfield or secondary in gridiron football. Cornerbacks cover receivers most of the time, but also blitz and defend against such offensive running plays as sweeps and reverses. The ''San Francisco Chronicle'' is a newspaper serving primarily the San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California. The 2022 NFL Draft was the 87th edition of the National Football League's annual draft and was held from April 28–30, 2022, at the Caesars Forum on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. The first round was held on Thursday, April 28, and was followed by the second and third rounds on Friday, April 29. The draft concluded with rounds 4–7 on Saturday, April 30. The Burlsworth Trophy is an award given annually to the most outstanding FBS college football player who began his career as a walk-on. It was first awarded for the 2010 season and is a program of the Brandon Burlsworth Foundation. Burlsworth walked on to the Arkansas Razorbacks football program in 1994 and became an All-American.
