Samuel Vestey, 2nd Baron Vestey
Samuel Vestey, 2nd Baron Vestey (25 December 1882 – 4 May 1954) was a British noble. Early life He was the son of William Vestey, 1st Baron Vestey, and was educated at Merton College, Oxford, matriculating in 1901. He served as Sheriff of Gloucestershire in 1933. He succeeded to the title on his father's death in 1940. Career He was a Justice of the Peace, and photographs of him by Lafayette are in the collection of the National Portrait Gallery. Personal life In 1908, he married Frances Sarah Howarth, they had three children: * Hon. Kathleen Sarah Vestey (born in May 1909), married Captain Maurice John Kingscote (30 July 1887 – 5 June 1959) on 18 September 1936. * Captain Hon. William Howarth Vestey (1912–1944), killed in action in Italy * Hon. William Vestey, 1st Baron Vestey
William Vestey, 1st Baron Vestey (21 January 1859 – 10 December 1940), was an English shipping magnate. Biography Early life William Vestey was born on 21 January 1859. He came from an old Liverpool family of traders. In 1876, at the age of seventeen, he was sent to Chicago by his father Samuel Vestey, a provisioner of Liverpool. Career He first managed a meat canning factory that was financed by his father. Together with his younger brother Sir Edmund Vestey, 1st Baronet, Edmund, he established Vestey Brothers (which later became the Vestey Group) in 1897 from a family butchery business in Liverpool. They were pioneers of refrigeration, opening a cold store in London in 1895. The Vestey brothers then went to South America in an attempt to make a fortune because the economy there was booming. Merton College, Oxford
Merton College (in full: The House or College of Scholars of Merton in the University of Oxford) is a Colleges of the University of Oxford, constituent college of the University of Oxford in England. Its foundation can be traced back to the 1260s when Walter de Merton, chancellor to Henry III of England, Henry III and later to Edward I, first drew up statutes for an independent academic community and established endowments to support it. An important feature of de Merton's foundation was that this "college" was to be self-governing and the endowments were directly vested in the Warden and Fellows. High Sheriff Of Gloucestershire
This is a list of Sheriffs and High Sheriffs of Gloucestershire, who should not be confused with the Sheriffs of the City of Gloucester. The High Sheriff is the oldest secular office under the Crown (in England and Wales the office previously known as sheriff was retitled High Sheriff on 1 April 1974). The National Portrait Gallery (NPG) is an art gallery in London that houses a collection of portraits of historically important and famous British people. When it opened in 1856, it was arguably the first national public gallery in the world that was dedicated to portraits. Captain Maurice John Kingscote (30 July 1887 – 5 June 1959) was a British polo champion. Biography He was born on 30 July 1887. He was the son of Thomas Arthur Fitzhardinge Kingscote and Evelyn Mary Gifford. He won the Roehampton Trophy in 1922, 1923 and 1929. He died in 5 June 1959 in a car accident. Samuel Vestey, 3rd Baron Vestey
Samuel George Armstrong Vestey, 3rd Baron Vestey, (19 March 1941 – 4 February 2021), was a British peer, landowner, and businessman. He served as Master of the Horse to Queen Elizabeth II from 1999 to 2018. Lord Vestey was part of the family dynasty that founded and still runs the Vestey Holdings multinational corporation. Baron Vestey, of Kingswood in the County of Surrey, is a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created in 1922 for the shipping magnate Sir William Vestey, 1st Baronet. He was the co-founder of the Blue Star Line.
