Samuel Darío Maldonado Vivas (February 7, 1870, Ureña, Táchira, Ureña, Táchira, Táchira State, Venezuela – October 6, 1925, Caracas, Venezuela) was a Venezuelan surgeon, anthropologist, writer, journalist and politician. He is known for his work as a sanitary doctor and as director of the National Health Office during the government of Juan Vicente Gómez. In the field of literature and journalism, he stood out for his poetic work, the creation of newspapers, and his opinion articles in important Venezuelan papers such as ''El Cojo Ilustrado'', ''El Universal (Caracas), El Universal'' and ''El Tiempo (Anzoátegui), El Tiempo''. He also conducted anthropological studies on the indigenous peoples of the Venezuelan Amazon jungle and the east of the country.
