Saint-Georges (Paris Métro)
Saint-Georges () is a station on Line 12 of the Paris Métro in the 9th arrondissement. The station opened on 8 April 1911 as part of the extension of the Nord-Sud company's line A from Notre-Dame-de-Lorette to Pigalle. On 27 March 1931 line A became line 12 of the ''Métro''. The station is named after the ''Rue Saint-Georges'', which became a street in 1734 and leads to the ''Place Saint-Georges'', created in 1824. It was the centre of an estate created by the speculator Dosne, father-in-law of the politician Adolphe Thiers. It was renovated during the early 2000s in imitation of the style adopted by the ''Nord-Sud Company'', the original architects of the station. The Paris Métro (, , or , ), short for Métropolitain (), is a rapid transit system serving the Paris metropolitan area in France. Mairie d'Aubervilliers () is a station on Line 12 of the Paris Métro, and is the northern terminus of the line. The station is located near Aubervilliers town hall and opened on 31 May 2022. In the future, it will be served by Line 15 of the Grand Paris Express. History Line 12 Line 12 was extended north to Front Populaire in December 2012. As part of the construction of that extension, tunnelling had continued north beyond Front Populaire, allowing the Pont de Stains (later Aimé Césaire) and Mairie d'Aubervilliers stations to be constructed at a later date. Construction on the station began in autumn 2014, with opening of the station planned for the end of 2017. However, technical difficulties due to sandy soil and a high water table led to substantial delays – with the opening of the station postponed to 2019 and then 2022.. Side Platform
A side platform (also known as a marginal platform or a single-face platform) is a platform positioned to the side of one or more railway tracks or guideways at a railway station, tram stop, or transitway. A station having dual side platforms, one for each direction of travel, is the basic design used for double-track railway lines (as opposed to, for instance, the island platform where a single platform lies between the tracks). Side platforms may result in a wider overall footprint for the station compared with an island platform, where a single width of platform can be shared by riders using either track. Adolphe Thiers
Marie Joseph Louis Adolphe Thiers ( ; ; 15 April 17973 September 1877) was a French statesman and historian who served as President of France from 1871 to 1873. He was the second elected president and the first of the Third French Republic. Thiers was a key figure in the July Revolution of 1830, which overthrew King Charles X of France, Charles X in favor of the more liberal King Louis Philippe, and the French Revolution of 1848, Revolution of 1848, which overthrew the July Monarchy and established the Second French Republic. Pigalle () is a station on lines 2 and 12 of the Paris Métro, named after the Place Pigalle, which commemorates the sculptor Jean-Baptiste Pigalle (1714–1785) on the border of the 9th and the 18th arrondissement.
