SK Århus
Sportsklub Aarhus was a Danish women's handball club based in Aarhus. They played in Damehåndboldligaen when the team closed after the 2016-17 season because of financial issues. Aarhus United took over their licence for the league. SK Aarhus has previously also included basketball and volleyball. History The club was founded in 2000. SK Aarhus had consistently been at the bottom of Damehåndboldligaen and were relegated to 1. division after the 2004-05 season. They were, however, promoted again after just one season. Later, the club strengthened their roster with the likes of Karin Mortensen, Josephine Touray and Trine Troelsen and this resulted in a playoff place and fourth place after three matches against FCK Håndbold in the 2008-09 season. During the 17 years the club existed they had consistently trouble with finding sponsors, and thus often were in financial trouble. Vejlby-Risskov Hallen
Vejlby-Risskov Hallen is an indoor arena located in Aarhus, Denmark. It was inaugurated in 1969 and has a capacity for 1,152 spectators. The building is part of the large sports complex of Vejlby-Risskov Idrætscenter, comprising several other sports halls and facilities. Vejlby-Risskov Hallen is home to the handball club SK Aarhus and the basketball Club Bakken Bears. In addition to sports events and daily training, Vejlby-Risskov Hallen is occasionally used as a music and event venue. In the 1970s and 1980s many notable artists performed at the arena, including Jimi Hendrix, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Kiss (band), Kiss, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple and Rainbow (English band), Rainbow. Damehåndboldligaen
The Kvindeligaen () is the top professional league for Danish women's handball clubs. It is administered by the Danish Handball Federation, and the winners are recognized as Danish champions. The league was previously called Bambusa Kvindeligaen for sponsorship reasons. It has previously been known as HTH GO Ligaen, Primo Tours Ligaen, Boxer Dameligaen, TOMS Ligaen and GuldBageren Ligaen. The current title holder is Team Esbjerg (2024). The European Handball Federation (EHF) ranks the Danish league 4th in the coefficients of leagues based on performances in European competitions over the past seasons. Pearl van der Wissel (born 14 April 1984) is a former Dutch handballer, who played for the Dutch national handball team, where she in 2017 was part of the team that won bronze medals at the 2017 World Championship. Career Pearl van der Wissel played in her home country for UDSV, Aalsmeer, Orient, VOC Amsterdam and Omni sportverenigung Hellas. In 2002 she won the Dutch championship with Hellas. Maibritt Kviesgaard (born 15 May 1986) is a former Danish handball player. She has also played on the Danish national team. She competed at the 2010 European Women's Handball Championship, where the Danish team placed fourth, and Kviesgaard was voted into the All-Star Team as Best Right Wing. Mette Tranborg
Mette Tranborg (born 1 January 1996) is a Danish handball player for Team Esbjerg and the Danish national team. Club career Mette Tranborg broke though the SK Aarhus first team at the age of 16. She was the first player in Danish league to be exempted from the minimum age requirements to play. She was awarded the Best Female Talent in the Danish league in the 2014/2015 season. In 2017 she switched to league rivals Odense Håndbold, where she was one of the key players for 2.5 seasons. She missed the last half season due to a Cruciate ligament injury. In 2020 she switched to Team Esbjerg. In the 2021-22 in the final, she missed a second shot against Odense Håndbold, which would have taken the final to extra time.
