S25 (ZVV)
The S25 is a regional railway line of the S-Bahn Zürich on the Zürcher Verkehrsverbund (ZVV), Zürich transportation network, and is one of the network's lines connecting the cantons of Zürich with Schwyz, Glarus and St. Gallen. The line was introduced in July 2014, and replaces the less frequent Glarner Sprinter train. At , trains of the S25 service usually depart from ground-level tracks () 3–18. History Between 1918 and 2004, there was no direct connection from the canton of Glarus to the city of Zürich. In 2004, the through Glarner Sprinter train was introduced, but financial and technical limitations meant this train only ran every two hours on weekdays, and twice a day on weekends and holidays. It also only reached Linthal, the terminus of the line in Glarus, on weekends and holidays. Lake Zurich
Lake Zurich (, ; ) is a lake in Switzerland, extending southeast of the city of Zurich. Depending on the context, Lake Zurich or can be used to describe the lake as a whole, or just that part of the lake downstream of the Hurden peninsula and Seedamm causeway (between Pfäffikon and Rapperswil). Glarus Railway Station
Glarus railway station () is a railway station in the municipality of Glarus in the Swiss canton of Glarus. It is an intermediate stop on the Ziegelbrücke–Linthal line. The station is served by Zürich S-Bahn service S25 between Zurich and Linthal, and by St. Gallen S-Bahn service S6 between Rapperswil and Schwanden. Both services operate once per hour, combining to provide two trains per hour between Ziegelbrücke and Schwanden. The station was opened in 1859, with the completion of the railway from Weesen. However the distinctive station building, designed by Karl August Hiller, was built between 1902 and 1903 as a replacement for an earlier structure. Ziegelbrücke Railway Station
Ziegelbrücke railway station () is a junction station in the village of Ziegelbrücke in Switzerland. Whilst the village is shared between the Glarus Nord, municipality of Glarus Nord, in the canton of Glarus, and the Schänis, municipality of Schänis, in the canton of St. Gallen, the station is located in the ''Gemarkung'' of Schänis, where it is the larger of two railway stations (the other being Schänis railway station). Opened in 1875, the station is owned and operated by the Swiss Federal Railways. It is one of the southern termini of the Lake Zurich left bank railway line, a main line that links Zürich Hauptbahnhof with Ziegelbrücke and Näfels. Schwanden, Glarus
Schwanden is a village, and former municipality, in the municipality of Glarus Süd and canton of Glarus in Switzerland. History Schwanden is first mentioned in 1240 as ''de swando''. In 1879, Schwanden was connected to the Swiss railway network by the opening of the Swiss Northeastern Railway line from Weesen. Between 1905 and 1969, the Sernftal tramway connected Schwanden with communities in the valley of the Sernf river as far as Elm. On 1 January 2011, Schwanden became part of the municipality of Glarus Süd. Geography Schwanden is situated at an elevation of at the point of confluence of the Linth and Sernf rivers. Ziegelbrücke is a village situated on both sides of the Linth Channel in Switzerland. Ziegelbrücke is shared by the Municipalities of Switzerland, municipalities of Niederurnen in the Cantons of Switzerland, canton of Glarus (canton), Glarus and Schänis in the canton of St. Gallen, with the Linth forming the boundary between these municipalities. Name The name refers to a bridge () covered by a roof with tiles (). The presence of such a bridge was first documented in 1532. This bridge was located approximately where the current bridge over the Linth Channel is nowadays. However, prior to the Linth#River_regulation_of_the_Linth, taming of the Linth (1807–1823), the River Linth ran west of Lake Walen (''Walensee''), and where the Linth Channel is today, there used to be a small river, the Maag, flowing out of Lake Walen and into the former River Linth.
