Roman Catholic Diocese Of Žilina
The Diocese of Žilina (, ) is a Latin Church, Latin diocese of the Catholic Church in north-western Slovakia including parts of the Trenčín Region, Trenčín and Žilina Region, Žilina regions. It has its seat in Žilina. The current bishop is Tomáš Galis. History The diocese was established on 14 February 2008 from the northern parts of the Diocese of Nitra, which shifted more to the south and from a small part of the Diocese of Banská Bystrica. In 2018, for the diocese’s tenth anniversary, a Silver Cross started to be awarded. The newest activities in 2022 from the newly established Caplan, the Roman Catholic priest Michal Tichy, were connected to another willingness project—The Wikimedia Foundation's interests. Varín
Varín () is a village and municipality in Žilina District in the Žilina Region of northern Slovakia. It is located at the Malá Fatra National Park and also serves as a tourist resort. Etymology The name is derived from Proto-Slavic ''varъ'' (, "boiling"). The original name was a hydronym referring to foamed water. History In historical records the village was first mentioned in 1235. In the middle of the 13th century as ''terra Warna'' it was property of the Cseszneky de Milvány family. Turzovka () is a town in the Čadca District, Žilina Region in north-western Slovakia. History The present-day town was established in 1598 by a palatine of the Thurzó family. It gained town status in 1968. This town became well known by the Marian apparitions reported by Matúš Lašut between 1958 and 1962. The town museum was established on October 1, 2015. Etymology Rajec, Rajčianka, Rajčanka are derived from Proto-Slavic appellative ''*rajь'' – a wet, muddy place (modern Slovak ''raj'' – a paradise, "a place with rich vegetation"). Púchov
Púchov (; ) is an industrial town in the centre of Púchov District in Slovakia, with a population close to 18,000. Geography It is located on the main train line between Bratislava and Košice. It is halfway between Trenčín and Žilina, two major Slovak cities, approximately 30 minutes train from both cities. The Váh river crosses Púchov, and there is a small dam open to public crossing. Považská Bystrica (; ; ) is a town in northwestern Slovakia. It is located on the Váh river, around 30 km from the city of Žilina. It belongs to Upper Váh region of tourism.
