Republica are an English alternative rock band formed in 1994. They reached the height of their popularity from 1996 to 1999. The band went on hiatus in 2001 and reunited in 2008. The Republica sound was described by the band as " technopop punk rock". The current line-up consists of Saffron (vocals), Tim Dorney (keyboards) and Johnny Male (guitar). History 1994–1997: Beginnings, debut album and international success Former Flowered Up keyboard players Tim Dorney and Andy Todd founded Republica. They recruited singer Saffron, who was an actress at one point, performing for two years in London's ''Starlight Express''. She also appeared in the video for the Chesney Hawkes' hit " The One and Only" and in the video for N-Joi's single "Mindflux". She was also lead vocalist on N-Joi's hit "Anthem" in 1990. VEB Typoart was the only type foundry of East Germany. It was a state-owned enterprise ("Volkseigener Betrieb") located in Dresden. The foundry's most influential art directors were Herbert Thannhäuser (until 1963) and Albert Kapr (until 1987). ''Republica'' is an extinct zygopteran genus in the damselfly family Euphaeidae with a single described species, ''Republica weatbrooki''. The species is solely known from the Early Eocene sediments exposed in the northeast of the U.S. state of Washington. Distribution ''Republica weatbrooki'' is known from a single location in the Eocene Okanagan Highlands, an outcrop of the Ypresian Klondike Mountain Formation in Republic. The holotype was recovered from the UWBM site B4131, which is designated the type locality, on May 24, 2006. Modern work on the fossil-bearing strata of the formation via radiometrically dating has given an estimated age in the Late Ypresian stage of the early Eocene, between at the youngest, with an oldest age estimate of , given based on detrital zircon isotopic data published in 2021. ''Republica'' is an enigmatic genus of flowering plants which includes three known species: ''Republica hickeyi'', ''Republica kummerensis'', and ''Republica litseafolia''. The genus has been found in Eocene age geologic formations along the Pacific coast of North America. The affiliations of ''Republica'' are uncertain, with the most recent placement being tentatively in the now broken up subclass Hamamelididae. Distribution The three species currently assigned to ''Republica'' are all known from western North America. The type species ''R. hickeyi'' is isolated to the Klondike Mountain Formation in the Ypresian Eocene Okanagan Highlands of northwest central Washington. ''Republica'' (stylised as ''República'') is an English-language national daily newspaper published by Nepal Republic Media in Kathmandu, Nepal. Founded by in 2009 by Ameet Dhakal, ''República'' is the sister publication of ''Nagarik'', the vernacular Nepali-language daily published by the same company. Overview Ameet Dhakal was the founding editor in chief of the newspaper but resigned in April 2012, whereupon Kosmos Biswakarma took over the editorship.
