Ratkovo (Odžaci)
Ratkovo ( sr-cyr, Ратково) is a village located in the Odžaci municipality, West Bačka District, Vojvodina, Serbia. As of 2011, the population of the village is 3,411 inhabitants. Name The former name of the town was Parabuć (). In German, it was known as ''Parabutsch'', and in Hungarian as ''Paripás'' or ''Parabuty''. In 1948, it was renamed Ratkovo for , a Yugoslav fighter in the Spanish Civil War. History The village was first mentioned in 1543. During the Ottoman rule (16th-17th century), Parabuć was populated by Serbs. Since the end of the 17th century, the village belonged to the Habsburg monarchy, and since 1781 many Germans settled here besides Serbs. Between 1918 and 1991, it was part of Yugoslavia. Demographics According to the last official census done in 2011, the village of Ratkovo has 3,411 inhabitants. The Spanish Civil War () was a military conflict fought from 1936 to 1939 between the Republican faction (Spanish Civil War), Republicans and the Nationalist faction (Spanish Civil War), Nationalists. Boško Perošević ( sr-Cyrl, Бошко Перошевић; 17 September 1956 – 13 May 2000) was a Serbian politician and former Chairman of the Executive Council of Vojvodina. He was assassinated in 2000. Biography Perošević was born in Odžaci and grew up in the near-by village of Ratkovo. He completed elementary and secondary school in Ratkovo and Odžaci, then Higher School of machine engineering and Economical Faculty in Subotica and received his master's degree at the Technological Faculty in Novi Sad. He visited the Soviet Union as a student and in addition to Serbian, he spoke Russian and English. In the specialized magazines he released several professional papers, while as a designer of tools and devices he patented several innovations. He published a study ''Kalupi za injekciono presovanje plastomera'' and together with three co-authors was published a book ''Promenama do uspešnog preduzeća''. The State Security Directorate (; abbr. РДБ / RDB), or simply State Security (; abbr. ДБ / DB), was a security agency within the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia tasked with protecting the country from internal threats. Jovan "Jovica" Stanišić ( sr-cyr, Јован "Јовица" Станишић; born 30 July 1950) is a Serbian former intelligence officer who served as the head of the State Security Directorate (RDB) within the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia from 1992 until 1998. He was removed from the position in October 1998, months after the outbreak of Kosovo War. Although very little was known about him during the 1990s, he is widely seen as the "mastermind and conductor of controlled chaos" during the large part of Yugoslav Wars.
