Qassimiut
Qassimiut, also known by its Danish name Bødker, is a settlement in the Kujalleq municipality in southern Greenland. The settlement was founded in 1835 as a trading station. With a population of 14 in 2024, it is the smallest organised, permanent settlement in Greenland. Qaqortoq
Qaqortoq (), also known as Julianehåb, is the capital city of the Kujalleq municipalities of Greenland, municipality in southern Greenland, located near Cape Thorvaldsen. With a population of 3,050 in 2020, it is the most populous town in southern Greenland and the fourth or list of cities in Greenland, fifth-largest town on the island. Kujalleq
Kujalleq (Greenlandic language, Greenlandic: , ) is a municipality on the southern tip of Greenland, operational from 1 January 2009. The administrative center of the municipality is in Qaqortoq (formerly called Julianehåb). Creation The municipality consists of the former municipalities of southern Greenland, each named after the biggest settlement: * Nanortalik Municipality * Narsaq Municipality * Qaqortoq Municipality In addition to the area of these municipalities, uninhabited parts of the former municipalities of Paamiut Municipality, Paamiut and Ammassalik Municipality, Ammassalik were added to the new administrative entity. Eqalugaarsuit
Eqalugaarsuit (old spelling: ''Eqalugârssuit'') is a settlement in the Kujalleq municipality in southern Greenland, located southeast of Qaqortoq and northwest of Alluitsup Paa. It had a population of 49 in 2020. Until January 2009, the settlement — along Qassimiut and Saarloq, as well as 13 sheep farms — belonged to the Qaqortoq municipality. On 1 January 2009 the settlement became part of the Kujalleq municipality, and the Narsaq, Qaqortoq, and Nanortalik municipalities ceased to exist. The settlements are presently governed by a joint settlement council. Economy The main occupations in Eqalugaarsuit are hunting and fishing. There are currently plans of introducing muskox to the surrounding area, as a source of food and traditional hide, called ''qiviut'', and as a tourist attraction. Saarloq
Saarloq is a settlement in the Kujalleq municipality in southern Greenland. Its population was 21 in 2020. It is located on a small island with the same name off the Labrador Sea coast, at the mouth of the Qaqortoq Fjord, west of Alluitsup Paa and 20 km south of Qaqortoq. The settlement is the southernmost of the three settlements—along Eqalugaarsuit and Qassimiut—that made up the former Qaqortoq municipality. The settlements are presently governed by a joint settlement council. Pilersuisoq
Pilersuisoq is a chain of all-purpose general stores in Greenland, a major division of the Parliament of Greenland, state-owned KNI (Greenland Trade), KNI conglomerate. Like its parent company, it is based in Sisimiut (Holsteinsborg), the list of cities in Greenland, second-largest town in Greenland. Lars Behrendt is the administrative director of the company since 2008. Operations The chain operates 64 outlets in all small settlements in the country, as well as smaller towns which are not, except for Aasiaat, covered by the Pisiffik or Brugseni, Brugsen supermarket chains. Siumut
Siumut (SIU, ; ; ) is a political party in Greenland in the social democratic tradition. Since the establishment of home rule in 1979, it has been the dominant party in Greenland. Siumut is led by Erik Jensen, who beat the then-incumbent Prime Minister Kim Kielsen in a tight leadership contest in late 2020. Party members have been elected to both the parliament of Greenland and the parliament of Denmark. History Siumut was formed in 1971 as a political movement, and became a party in 1977. Heliport
A heliport is a small airport which has a helipad, suitable for use by helicopters, powered lift, and various types of vertical lift aircraft.
