Putuo District is a district of Zhoushan City, Zhejiang, China with a population of 378,805. The district used to be a county. In 1987, it was combined with the neighbouring county of Dinghai to form the city of Zhoushan. The town of Dongji () is an administrative division of Putuo District, Zhoushan, Zhejiang province, China. The town, as an administrative unit, occupies several minor islands of the Zhoushan Archipelago, namely: * the islands of the Zhongjieshan Archipelago (), the three largest of which, west to east, are Huangxing () Island, Miaozihu Island (), and Qingbang Island (). * Dongfushan Island a few miles to the southeast of them. * A few tiny islets farther east, at the easternmost extremity of the archipelago. Mount Putuo (, from Sanskrit: "Mount Potalaka") is an island in Putuo District, Zhoushan, Zhejiang, China. It is a renowned site in Chinese Buddhism and is the bodhimaṇḍa of the bodhisattva Guanyin. Mount Putuo is one of the four sacred mountains in Chinese Buddhism, the others being Mount Wutai, Mount Jiuhua, and Mount Emei (bodhimaṇḍas for Manjushri, Kṣitigarbha, and Samantabhadra, respectively). Liuheng (town)
Shuangyu () was a port on Liuheng Island () off the coast of Zhejiang, China. During the 16th century, the port served as an illegal entrepôt of international trade, attracting traders from Japan, Southeast Asia, and Portugal in a time when private overseas trade was banned by China's ruling Ming dynasty. Portuguese sources called the place Liampó, taking the name of the nearby city of Ningbo on the mainland.
