Puerto Ingeniero Ibáñez Airport (), is an airport serving Puerto Ingeniero Ibáñez, a town in the Aysén Region of Chile. The town is at the head of Ibáñez Bay, a bay off the northern side of General Carrera Lake. The runway lies between the mouth of the Ibáñez River and the town. There is mountainous terrain north and east of the airport, and rising terrain to the west. South approach and departure are over the water. Puerto Ingeniero Ibáñez
Puerto Ibáñez is a small town in the Aisén Region in the south of Chile. It is located on a bay off the north shore of General Carrera Lake, south of Coihaique. In the 2002 census it had a population of 757. It is the capital of the commune of Río Ibáñez, Chile, Río Ibáñez. History The town was founded in 1924. It was named after a Chilean miner, Cornelio Ibáñez, who spent several seasons in the area. Economy The town's economy is mainly based on cattle farming and crop growing, aided by a benign microclimate influenced by the lake. Distinctive pottery is also made in the town. Tourism is also important. There is rock art in the area, and the waterfall of the Ibanez River, Rio Ibáñez is away. Transportation The town is linked to the Carretera Austral by a paved road. General Carrera Lake
General Carrera Lake (Chilean part, officially renamed in 1959) or Lake Buenos Aires (Argentine part) is a deep lake located in Patagonia and shared by Argentina and Chile. Both names are internationally accepted, while the autochthonous name of the lake is Chelenko, which means "stormy waters" in Aonikenk. Another historical name is Coluguape from Mapuche, a derivative of this name is applied to Colhué Huapí Lake after Argentine explorer Francisco Moreno reached this lake in 1876 conflating it with Coluguape (General Carrera Lake). The lake is of glacial origin and is surrounded by the Andes mountain range. The lake drains to the Pacific Ocean on the west through the Baker River. During the last glaciation the lake drained to the Atlantic through Deseado River. The weather in this area of Chile and Argentina is generally cold and humid. Ibáñez River
The Ibáñez River is a river of Chile located in the Aysén del General Carlos Ibáñez del Campo Region. It has its origin in the skirts of Hudson volcano and flows south-east through the Andes into the General Carrera Lake. The river borders the south side of Cerro Castillo National Reserve, home to Cerro Castillo. Puerto Ingeniero Ibáñez is located close to the mouth of the river.
