Procopio, officially Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch LLP, is a mid-sized American business law firm headquartered in San Diego, California. The firm was founded in 1946 by Alec Cory and Edward Schwartz. It has 170 attorneys working from seven offices across the United States. The firm's first office consisted of about 300 square feet with two cubicles at Sixth and Broadway in downtown San Diego. Edward Schwartz
Edward Joseph Schwartz (March 26, 1912 – March 22, 2000) was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of California. Education and career Born in Seattle, Washington, Schwartz received an Artium Baccalaureus degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 1934 and a Juris Doctor from the University of San Francisco School of Law in 1939. He was a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy during World War II, from 1942 to 1945, and thereafter served as a United States Naval Reserve Lieutenant Commander. After law school he was in private practice in San Diego, California, from 1940 to 1941. He resumed his legal practice after servicing in World War II in San Diego, becoming one of two original founders of Procopio Law in 1946. Sol Price
Sol Price (January 23, 1916 – December 14, 2009) was an American retailer and the founder of FedMart, Price Club (which ultimately merged into Costco) and PriceSmart. He was considered the "father" of the "warehouse store" retail model. Early life and education Price was born in The Bronx in New York City, the son of Samuel and Bella Price, Jewish immigrants to the United States from Minsk (Belarus), in the early years of the 20th century. The family relocated to San Diego in the early 1920s. Price graduated from San Diego High School in 1931, attended San Diego State University in 1932, and earned his undergraduate degree (in philosophy) and Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Southern California in 1936 and 1938, respectively. FedMart
FedMart was a chain of discount department stores started by Sol Price, who later founded Price Club. Originally a discount department store open to government employees paying a $2 per family membership fee, FedMart earned four times more than its investors had projected in its first year. Over the next 20 years, FedMart grew to include 45 stores, mostly in California, and the Southwest in a chain that generated over $300 million in annual sales. The business expanded to several states in the Southwest United States. Many stores were previous White Front or Two Guys locations. Price later sold two-thirds of the chain to Hugo Mann, a German retail chain, in 1975 and was forced out of his leadership position the following year. FedMart went out of business in 1982.
