' (English: ''The Tales of Moss and Fern''), also commonly referred to as ' ('' and '') is a Czechoslovakian animated children's television series produced from 1968 to 1979. The series focuses on the adventures of two forest gnomes named Křemílek and Vochomůrka, who are often dealing with certain problems. It was made by Kratky Film Prague and their animation studio Bratři v Triku. History The series is based on the book with the same title by Václav Čtvrtek. It premiered on Czechoslovak Television on October 6, 1968. The first season was shot in black and white, with the remainder of the series being shot in color. Due to its success, a second season spanning 13 episodes was produced in 1970. In 2014, Česká televize announced plans to colorize the first season by 2017. However, only the first 7 episodes were colorized and shown in 2018, with a 16:9 format being added as well. Václav Čtvrtek
Václav Cafourek (4 April 1911 – 6 November 1976), commonly known under his pen name of Václav Čtvrtek, was a Czechs, Czech poet and author. His most famous works include Křemílek and Vochomůrka, Rumcajs and Víla Amálka. He primarily wrote fairy tales for children, and some of his works have been adapted on the Czech children's television program Večerníček. On 4 April 2011, Google celebrated his 100th birthday by replacing the original Google logo with a doodle celebrating his works for a day on Google Czech Republic. Biography Čtvrtek was born on 4 April 1911 in Prague, Austria-Hungary. However, he spent a part of his childhood in Jičín, the town which later became the setting for his stories and fairy tales. He studied at gymnasium (school), gymnasium (graduated in 1931) and continued his studies at the Faculty of Law of the Charles University in Prague.
