Pijnacker-Nootdorp
Pijnacker-Nootdorp () is a municipality in the Randstad conurbation in the Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. The municipality covers an area of of which is water. The municipality of Pijnacker-Nootdorp comprises three settlements: Delfgauw, Nootdorp and Pijnacker. It also contains seven historical hamlets (one of which is partially in Delft), which all fall under one or more of the settlements for all intents and purposes. It is the result of merging the municipalities of Pijnacker and Nootdorp in 2002, with parts being annexed by neighbouring The Hague. It is part of Greater The Hague, but it also borders Delft and Rotterdam. It is also part of the larger Rotterdam–The Hague metropolitan area. Pijnacker and Nootdorp are connected to The Hague and Rotterdam through the Randstadrail public transport system, and Nootdorp also with a tram line. Pijnacker
Pijnacker () is a town in the Netherlands, Dutch province of South Holland. It is bordered by Zoetermeer to the north, by Nootdorp to the northwest, by Delfgauw to the southwest, by Rotterdam (specifically Overschie) to the south and by Berkel en Rodenrijs to the east. Pijnacker was a separate municipality until 2002, when it merged with Nootdorp to form Pijnacker-Nootdorp, which is a part of COROP#South Holland province, Greater The Hague. However, Pijnacker does not border The Hague (Nootdorp does), and it does border Rotterdam especially since Nootdorp and Pijnacker, while technically contiguous, have about 2 km of nature between them. While it may then seem strange that the two towns would want to merge, they did so preemptively to avoid potential annexing by the cities. Nootdorp
Nootdorp () is a small town in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is bordered by Zoetermeer to the north, by The Hague (specifically Leidschenveen-Ypenburg) to the west, by Delfgauw to the south and by Pijnacker to the east. Rotterdam–The Hague Metropolitan Area
The Rotterdam–The Hague metropolitan area () is a metropolitan area encompassing the cities of Rotterdam and The Hague as well as 21 other municipalities. It was founded in 2014. The area has a population of approximately 2.7 million across . It is the largest European port, with many international organizations residing within its borders. The area is also part of the larger urban area called Randstad. Air traffic is supported by Rotterdam-The Hague Airport offering services to a number of European cities, however the majority of air travelers use Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, which is about 45 kilometers from The Hague. Maria Van Oosterwijck
Maria van Oosterwijck, also spelled Oosterwyck, (1630–1693) was a Dutch Golden Age painter, specialising in richly detailed flower paintings and other still lifes. Life and work Maria van Oosterwijck was born in 1630 in Nootdorp, a town located near Delft in South Holland, the Netherlands. Her date of birth is generally listed as 20 August, but some sources state that it was 27 August. Her father was a Dutch Reformed Church minister, as was her grandfather. When she was quite young, her father took her to the studio of the masterful still life painter Jan Davidsz. de Heem. Trams In The Hague
The Hague Tram () is a tram network forming part of the public transport system in and around the city of The Hague in South Holland, Netherlands. Opened in 1864, as of 2018 the network has twelve tram lines, three of which were built to light rail standards and currently operate under the RandstadRail brand. Jaap Schrieke
Jacobus Johannes 'Jaap' Schrieke (17 October 1884 – 15 April 1976) was a Dutch administrator, jurist, and collaborator who served as Secretary-General of the Dutch Ministry of Justice during the German occupation of the Netherlands. He was also the brother of the Dutch jurist and politician Bep Schrieke who briefly served as minister of education during the fifth Colijn government in 1939. Biography Schrieke was born in Pijnacker in the Netherlands in 1884. He studied law and Indonesian (adat) law at the Leiden University in the Netherlands and was awarded a PhD in law in 1908.
