Paul Van Himst
Paul Guillaume van Himst (born 2 October 1943) is a Belgian former association football, football player and a Coach (sport), football manager who played as a forward (association football), forward, most notably for R.S.C. Anderlecht. Regarded as Anderlecht's ultimate club icon, Van Himst holds the record of four Belgian Golden Shoe awards and was named best "Belgian footballer of the twentieth century". Early years Van Himst was introduced to Anderlecht as a child because his father, who was an ardent fan of Joseph Mermans, Jef Mermans, rarely missed a home match and regularly took his three children to the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium, Émile Versé Stadium. The young Van Himst himself started to play football in a neighborhood of Sint-Pieters-Leeuw and on the playground of the Sint-Niklaas Institute where national coach Bill Gormlie took care of the children. Sint-Pieters-Leeuw (; , ) is a municipality in the province of Flemish Brabant, in the Flemish region of Belgium. The municipality comprises the towns of Oudenaken, Ruisbroek, Sint-Laureins-Berchem, Sint-Pieters-Leeuw proper and Vlezenbeek. Gilbert Van Binst
Gilbert Van Binst (5 July 1951 – 3 January 2025) was a Belgian footballer who played as a defender. Club career Van Binst played for over a decade for Anderlecht, beginning his professional career with the club in 1968. He won numerous domestic and continental honours during his time with the club, most famously scoring two goals in the win over Austria Wien in the 1978 European Cup Winners' Cup Final. He would move to France to play for Toulouse for one season in 1980. He returned to Belgium in 1981, finishing his career by playing for Anderlecht's city rivals Club Brugge. International career Van Binst earned 15 caps for Belgium. He was a part of the squad that finished third at the 1972 European Championships on home soil. Ludo Coeck
Ludo Coeck (25 September 1955 – 9 October 1985) was a Belgian footballer who played as left winger or central midfielder. His clubs included Berchem Sport, Anderlecht, Inter Milan and Ascoli Calcio. First capped for the Belgium national team at the age of 19, he went on to play for his country 46 times, scoring four goals, over an international career which lasted a decade. Coeck was a member of the Belgium World Cup squad at España 82, where he played in all five of his country's games and scored with a long-range shot against El Salvador, and at Euro 84, where he appeared as a substitute in the defeats by France and Denmark. On 7 October 1985, while he was on his way back to Antwerp and taking part in a TV sports programme in Brussels, Coeck was badly injured when his BMW ploughed into crash barriers on a motorway near the town of Rumst. The Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, most commonly referred to as the Fairs Cup and sometimes as the European Fairs Cup or Fairs Cities' Cup, was a European football competition played between 1955 and 1971. The Fairs Cup was the idea of FIFA vice-president and executive committee member Ernst Thommen, Italian Football Federation president and FIFA executive committee member Ottorino Barassi and English Football Association general secretary, Stanley Rous. As the name suggests, the competition was set up to promote international trade fairs. Friendly games were regularly held between teams from cities holding trade fairs and it was from these games that the competition evolved. FC Haka, originally ''Valkeakosken Haka'', commonly known as Haka, is a Finnish professional football club based in the industrial town of Valkeakoski. 1966–67 European Cup
The 1966–67 European Cup was the 12th season of the European Cup, UEFA's premier club football tournament. The competition was won by Celtic for the first time, when they beat Inter Milan 2–1 in the final at the Estádio Nacional, Lisbon, on 25 May 1967, making them the first British team, as well as the only Scottish team (as of 2025) to win the trophy. Celtic also became just the second team to win the tournament on their debut appearance after Inter Milan in 1963–64 edition.
