The Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) is an American public broadcaster and non-commercial, free-to-air television network based in Arlington, Virginia. PBS is a publicly funded nonprofit organization and the most prominent provider of educational programs to public television stations in the United States, distributing shows such as ''Nature'', '' Nova'', '' Frontline'', '' PBS News Hour'', ''Masterpiece'', ''Mister Rogers' Neighborhood'', ''Sesame Street'', ''Barney & Friends'', '' ''Arthur'''' and ''American Experience''. Mister Rogers' Neighborhood
''Mister Rogers' Neighborhood'' (sometimes shortened to ''Mister Rogers'') is an American half-hour educational children's television series that ran from 1968 to 2001. It was created and hosted by Fred Rogers. Its original incarnation, the series ''Misterogers'' debuted in Canada on October 15, 1962, on CBC Television. In 1966, Rogers moved back to the United States creating ''Misterogers' Neighborhood'' (sometimes shown as ''MisteRogers' Neighborhood''), later called ''Mister Rogers' Neighborhood'', on the regional Eastern Educational Television Network (EETN, a forerunner of today's American Public Television). ''Arthur'' is an animated television series developed by Marc Brown (author), Marc Brown and Kathy Waugh and produced by WGBH-TV, WGBH Boston for PBS. ''Barney & Friends'' is an American children's television series created by Sheryl Leach targeted at children ages two to five. Paula Kerger
Paula Kerger (born ) is an American media executive who has served as president and chief executive officer of PBS since 2006. Early life and education Kerger grew up outside Baltimore, Maryland, where her grandfather, a college physics professor, helped found the city's public radio station. She attended the University of Baltimore as a pre-med student before switching to business, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in 1979. Career After graduating, Kerger was hired as a program development officer for UNICEF. She continued working in the nonprofit sector, becoming director of principal gifts for the Metropolitan Opera in 1989. Her first job in public media was as development director for the New York area public television station WNET, where she began working in 1993.
