''Orphée'' is a solo studio album by Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson. It was released on 16 September 2016, through Deutsche Grammophon. It received generally favorable reviews from critics. Background The music of ''Orphée'' is inspired by Jean Cocteau's film of the same name, Ovid's interpretation of the Orpheus myth, and Jóhann Jóhannsson's own life changes, specifically his relocation from Copenhagen to Berlin. The album includes contributions from Jóhannsson (on piano, electronics, pipe organ, and electric organ), Hildur Guðnadóttir (on cello), the American Contemporary Music Ensemble, the Air Lyndhurst String Orchestra (conducted by Anthony Weeden), and the Theatre of Voices (conducted by Paul Hillier). Recordings of numbers stations are also used in the album. Jóhann Jóhannsson
Jóhann Gunnar Jóhannsson (; 19 September 1969 – 9 February 2018) was an Icelandic composer who wrote music for a wide array of media including theatre, dance, television, and film. His work is stylised by its blending of traditional orchestration with contemporary electronic elements. Jóhann released solo albums from 2002 onward. In 2016, he signed with Deutsche Grammophon, through which he released his last solo album, '' Orphée''. Some of his works in film include the original scores for Denis Villeneuve's '' Prisoners'', '' Sicario'', and '' Arrival'', and James Marsh's '' The Theory of Everything''. Jóhannsson was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Score for both ''The Theory of Everything'' and ''Sicario'', and won a Golden Globe for Best Original Score for the former. Chris Watson (singer)
Christopher Watson is a British tenor specialising in Early music, Baroque, and Contemporary repertoire. Born in Leamington Spa on 10 January 1969, and raised in Canterbury, Kent in England, Watson studied tuba before reading music at the University of Exeter. Having sung in and directed Exeter University Chapel Choir, and a spell as a choral scholar at Exeter Cathedral, he went on to hold positions as lay clerk at Durham Cathedral, Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford, and Westminster Cathedral. Career Watson became Director of Music of the Choir of Trinity College, University of Melbourne in January 2017. Signe Asmussen
Signe Asmussen Manuitt (born 1970) is a Danish mezzosoprano singer who has performed widely, not only in classical concerts, chamber music and opera but also in Latin jazz and as a member of The Tolkien Ensemble. Since 2001, she has made a mark as one of Denmark's most impressive female singers. In addition to appearances in Denmark, she has given recitals in London's Wigmore Hall and Amsterdam's Concertgebouw. Else Torp is a Danish soprano born 1968 in Roskilde. Career She is a member of Paul Hillier's Theatre of Voices, with whom she sings ancient and baroque works of composers such as Peter Abelard, Roland de Lassus, Thomas Tallis, and Heinrich Schütz, as well as contemporary creations such as by John Cage, Karlheinz Stockhausen, and Arvo Pärt.
