Ernesto Cardenal
Ernesto Cardenal Martínez (20 January 1925 – 1 March 2020) was a Nicaraguan Catholic priest, poet, and politician. He was a liberation theologian and the founder of the primitivist art community in the Solentiname Islands, where he lived for more than ten years (1965–1977). A former member of the Nicaraguan Sandinistas, he was Nicaragua's minister of culture from 1979 to 1987. He was prohibited from administering the sacraments in 1984 by Pope John Paul II, but rehabilitated by Pope Francis in 2019. José Joaquín Ávila Portalatín (September 11, 1925 – June 28, 2013), better known as Yiye Ávila, was a Puerto Rican people, Puerto Rican Pentecostal Evangelism, Evangelist and writer of Sephardi Jews, Sephardic origins. Mauricio Herdocia Sacasa (1 August 1957 – 21 January 2021) was a Nicaraguan jurist who specialized in international law, and diplomat. He held roles in the Nicaraguan government, especially in the Foreign Ministry, across party lines, as well as roles in major international legal bodies including at the United Nations and the Organization of American States. In the 1980s, he worked on a number of peace processes in Central America, helping formalize legal and political structures for the region. Also a legal scholar and professor, he was rector of the American College University and the author of four books on the laws governing the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Nicaragua. Armando Morales (January 15, 1927 – November 16, 2011) was an internationally renowned Nicaraguan painter. Morales is considered one of the most important painters of Nicaragua. Morales, who was born in Granada, Nicaragua, received many awards for his works. He received his first award at the Central American Painting Contest "15 de Septiembre" (September 15) which was held in Guatemala in 1956. He received the award for a painting which he named "Spook-Tree". That same painting was later bought by the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Ernesto Mejía Sánchez (Masaya, Nicaragua, 1923 – Mérida, Mexico, 1985) was a Nicaraguan author and poet. He took his doctoral degree in Madrid and, for several years was a professor at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. His first work was ''Romances y Corridos Nicaragüenses'', a compilation of stories, which was published in Mexico in 1946. He was a political adversary of Somoza. For that reason, he wrote a book of political poetry in 1950. This work launched his career as a poet. Luis Enrique Mejía López (born September 28, 1962) is a Nicaraguan-American singer-songwriter and musician. He is known as "El Príncipe de la Salsa" (''The Prince of Salsa''). Carlos Mejía Godoy (born June 27, 1943) is a Nicaraguan musician, composer and singer-songwriter and one of the main representatives of the testimonial song or new song of his country. He grew up in a family related to popular music, folklore and traditional culture, which gave him a very early relationship with the cultural and artistic world of Nicaragua.
