Opheim–West Poplar River Border Crossing
The Opheim–West Poplar River Border Crossing connects the town of Opheim, Montana with Rockglen, Saskatchewan on the Canada–United States border. It is reached by Montana Highway 24 on the American side and Saskatchewan Highway 2 on the Canadian side. The crossing is among the 10 least-used on the border. It is so remote that border officials live in housing next to each country's stations. In 2004, the US replaced its small border station with a large facility. Canada replaced its border station at West Poplar River in 2015. Rockglen is a town in the Burning Hills of the Wood Mountain Uplands, in Saskatchewan, Canada. It offers various amenities including a school, community hall, public library and five parks, as well a local service industry. The municipal office of the Rural Municipality of Poplar Valley No. 12 lies within the boundaries of Rockglen, and Rockglen businesses are supported primarily by agriculture. Opheim, Montana
Opheim is a town in Valley County, Montana, United States. The population was 75 at the 2020 census. History *Opheim was named for Alfred Sumner Opheim (1872-1949), who together with his wife Helen (Ouandahl) Opheim (1874-1930), served as the first postmasters of the town. *The town was founded before the expansion of the Great Northern Railway, but benefited by having its own depot. In the early 1990s, railway abandonment occurred between the towns of Scobey and Opheim. *Opheim was once the location of Opheim Air Force Station, a former United States Air Force General Surveillance Radar station. Montana Highway 24 (MT 24) is a state highway in the US state of Montana. It begins at MT 200 near Brockway, and ends at the Saskatchewan border at Port of Opheim. Along the way, it intersects MT 117, MT 42 and US Highway 2 (US 2). Route description MT 24 begins at an intersection with MT 200 near Brockway. The route then proceeds northward through a rural area along the eastern shore of Fort Peck Lake. The highway turns to the west, crosses the Fort Peck Dam before passing through Fort Peck, Montana, and travels just yards from the northern shore of the lake. It intersects with MT 117, as it exits Fort Peck, and enters Wheeler. The highway heads northwest before turning due north. From here, it intersects MT 42, just prior to intersecting with US 2. Saskatchewan Highway 2
Highway 2 is a provincial highway in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. It is the longest highway in Saskatchewan at 809 km (503 mi). The highway has a few divided sections but is mostly undivided. However, only about near Moose Jaw, near Chamberlain, and near Prince Albert are divided highway. Highway 2 is a major north-south route beginning at the Canada–US border at the Port of West Poplar River and Opheim, Montana customs checkpoints. Montana Highway 24 continues south.
