Octavi Aballí
Octavi Aballí Aballí (1883 – 20 March 1948) was a Spanish footballer who played as a midfielder for RCD Espanyol. After his career as a footballer, he worked as a doctor. Playing career RCD Espanyol Born in Matanzas, Cuba, his family moved to Barcelona so that he could continue his studies. At the turn of the century, Aballí began to practice football, a sport relatively unknown at the time, at the Velódromo de la Bonanova with some friends and other young university students. In late 1900, the 17-year-old Aballí, together with two classmates from the university, Ángel Rodríguez and Luis Roca, created a football team that was officially established on 28 October 1900 as the ''Sociedad Española de Fútbol'', which is now known as RCD Espanyol. The club's board of directors was subsequently elected and Aballí was named as its treasurer, a position he held for just one season (1900–01). Matanzas
Matanzas (Cuban ; ) is the capital of the Cuban province of Matanzas Province, Matanzas. Catalan Football Championship
The Catalan football championship ''(Campionat de Catalunya)'' was a football competition in Catalonia and the first football league in Spain before La Liga was established in 1929. In December 1900, Alfons Macaya, the president of Hispania AC, offered a trophy (the Copa Macaya) to be contested by several football teams from Spain. The league was played between 1901 and 1940 and was cancelled in Francoist Spain after the Spanish Civil War. The 1902–03 Catalan Football Championship was the 3rd staging of the Catalan football championship, Championship of Catalonia. This season was peculiar because it comprised two different competitions held the same year. Due to disagreements between the reigning champion of the tournament, FC Barcelona, and some of the clubs invited, in 1902–03 two parallel competitions were held: an "official", the Copa Macaya organized by Hispania Athletic Club, Hispania AC and an "unofficial", the #Copa Barcelona, Copa Barcelona organized by FC Barcelona. The Hispania Athletic Club Tournament–Alfonso Macaya Cup, popularly known as the Copa Macaya, was a Association football, football competition contested by clubs from Catalonia which ran from 1900 until 1903, disappearing at the same time of its organizers, Hispania Athletic Club, Hispania AC, who won the first edition in 1901. Initially, the championship was open to all Spanish clubs, thus some historians consider this cup to be the first national championship in Spain, as well as the predecessor and forerunner for the Catalan football championship which began in 1903. The Catalonia national football team () is the official football team of Catalonia. It is organised by the Catalan Football Federation, founded in 1900.
