Nackawic
Nackawic is an unincorporated community in New Brunswick, Canada. It held town status prior to 2023. It is approximately 65 km west of the city of Fredericton on the east bank of the Saint John River. Nackawic, from the Malecite Nelgwaweegek, "straight stream", possibly in reference to how the mouth faces the Saint-John River. History The area was first settled in 1784 by the United Empire Loyalists, primarily through land grants to the families of soldiers who had fought with His Majesty's Regiment of Queen's Rangers during the American Revolutionary War. Previously known as Otis, the development of town began in the late 1960s and was built so those forced to relocate as a result of the Mactaquac Dam being constructed would have a place to reside. Queensbury is a civil parish in York County, New Brunswick, Canada. For governance purposes it forms the local service district of the parish of Queensbury, which is a member of Regional Service Commission 11 (RSC11). Origin of name The area was settled by the Queen's Rangers, a Loyalist unit named in honour of Queen Charlotte. History Queensbury was erected in 1786 as one of the original parishes of York County. In 1824 part of Queensbury was included in the newly erected Douglas Parish. In 1835 the boundary between Queensbury and Douglas was moved upriver, removing territory from Queensbury. In 1842 the interior boundary with Douglas was altered. In 1847 four islands in the Saint John River were transferred from Prince William Parish. Millville, New Brunswick
Millville is an unincorporated community in York County, New Brunswick, Canada. It held village status prior to 2023. It is at the intersection of Route 104 and Route 605. Situated on the Nackawic River approximately 58.16 kilometers northwest of Fredericton, Millville has one combination convenience store and gas station both have now been closed, as well as a volunteer fire department and several churches and post office. The village is famous for having the World's Largest Artificial Maple Leaf. The community is served by the Millville Fire Department, consisting of approximately 18 volunteer firefighters. History Millville was established about 1860 as a New Brunswick and Nova Scotia Land Company settlement. A post office was established in 1866. Mactaquac Dam
The Mactaquac Dam is an embankment dam used to generate hydroelectricity in Mactaquac, New Brunswick. It dams the waters of the Saint John River and is operated by NB Power with a capacity to generate 670 megawatts of electricity from 6 turbines; this represents 20 percent of New Brunswick's power demand. Location Formally called the Mactaquac Generating Station, the dam and power house are located approximately upstream from the city of Fredericton. The dam is an embankment dam consisting of a rock-fill structure sealed by clay. It combines with two concrete spill-ways to form an arch across a narrow section of the river between the communities of Kingsclear on the west bank, and Keswick Ridge on the east bank.
