Nậm Nhùn District
Nậm Nhùn is a rural district of Lai Châu province in the Northwest region of Vietnam. As of 2012, the district had a population of 24,165. The district covers an area of 1,388.08 km2. The district capital lies at Nậm Nhùn. Nậm Nhùn district was formed from portions of Mường Tè district and Sìn Hồ district under Act No.71/NQ-CP/2012 of the Government of Vietnam on November 2, 2012. The district is subdivided to 11 commune-level subdivisions, including Nậm Nhùn township and the rural communes of: Hua Bum, Mường Mô, Nậm Chà, Nậm Hàng, Nậm Manh, Pú Đao, Lê Lợi, Nậm Pì, Nậm Ban and Trung Chải. Geography The district lies in the western part of Lai Châu Province, to the west of Sìn Hồ district and to the east of Mường Tè district. Districts (), also known as rural districts or counties, are one of several types of second-tier administrative subdivisions of Vietnam, the other types being urban districts (), provincial cities (), municipal cities (), and district-level towns (). Regions Of Vietnam
The Vietnamese government often groups the various provinces and municipalities into three regions: Northern Vietnam, Central Vietnam, and Southern Vietnam. Northwest (Vietnam)
Tây Bắc (literally "Northwest") is one of the regions of Vietnam, located in the mountainous northwestern part of the country. It consists of six provinces: Điện Biên, Lai Châu, Sơn La, Hòa Bình, Lào Cai and Yên Bái are usually seen as part of the Northwest region. It has a population of 4.9 million (2022) and it is fully landlocked. Geography History A large area of the region was previously a part of the Sip Song Chau Tai, Tai-Meo Autonomous Region, which was dissolved in 1954. It was renamed the "Northwest Autonomous Region" ''(Khu Tự trị Tây Bắc)'' in 1961, in order to not highlight just two of the many ethnic groups in this zone. Vietnam is divided into 34 First-level administrative division, first-level subdivisions, comprising 28 provinces () and Municipalities of Vietnam, six municipalities under the command of the central government ().
